Haha holy shit that is exactly how I'd arrange it too. I was pretty let down with Love pt. 2 :( The first half was solid (Saturday Love is amazing) but the last half wasn't great. I'm kinda iffy on the new Chasing Shadows EP too. But I was iffy on TDW for awhile and now I like it so maybe I'll warm up to me.
But yeah. End story, AVA gives me a lot of feels that no other music does. They really make me want to be in love. "Heaven" and "Start the Machine" have both made me cry.

TKOL, Pygmalion, and Beautiful Place are there because they're legit 5/5's to me, while the other two i mentioned are boosted because of personal significance. not to say the former 3 haven't had any impact on me, just nothing extraordinary like kid a and dsotm
To explain why I think TKOL is a 5/5, it's just such a hypnotic album. It's kind of hard to describe.. it makes me feel like I'm in a forest, on mushrooms, looking up at the patterns made by the branches and leaves and the light. Becoming one with nature. Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to do this while listening to TKOL, but I plan to.
I dunno, over time if you keep listening to it, all the tracks start to come together as one piece, yknow? it's all in the rhythm. they're all unified because each one locks into a rhythm.. and they rhythm is the main course, the melodies are just side dishes. the rhythms are filled out with lots of different types of instruments and it's just really interesting.
idk, im bad at explaining these kinds of things but there you go.

Nothing wrong with the albums he listed. Personal enjoyment doesn't have to be at the expense of how critically-acclaimed or popular an album is. Most of RYM's top rated consensus usually has good shit and deserves it's high markings, at least from my experience. There's no need to dig at the bottom of the barrel to find some gem, even if there are some.

I've found great stuff trying to expand my tastes and look deeper, but that doesn't completely dismiss universally liked albums or how much enjoyment you have. I'm not someone to say someone is trying to be a contrarian for not like X popular album either so in the end just like what you like and don't have shame in it.

/mu/core is very useful for acting like a compass; which /mu/core albums you really like points you in the direction of other albums in that vein. I really don't think any significant number here legitimately believe ITAOTS is the greatest album of all time, but it's a very good album to litmus test whether you're going to be really into indie, folk, to some extent modern psych, etc.
