My biggest fucking pet peeve. For me. If a song fades out, it cannot be a perfect album.
>>
>>65421108
what if a fade out is such an integral part of a song that when the band is playing it life it actually ends the song with fading out?
>>
>>65420951
>>65421020
To be fair, this wasn't even remotely close to as overdone in the 60s as it is today.
>>
>>65421138
Name me one single song that sounds better with a fade out instead of an actual ending.

I can't stand this. It's lazy and pathetic.

This is the reason I refuse to acknowledge Pet Sounds as some sort of masterpiece of songwriting. No competent songwriter has that much trouble ending a song that nearly every track fades out during a repetitive outro.

Genesis' Supper's Ready NEVER had another ending but a fade out. It's just the way the song is. If you end a 20 fucking minute epic that defines your band with a fade out, and you put in the effort to replicate the fade out live, it is a valid artistic decision, just as any "real" ending.

Its a good and bad thing.
The bad being that if i listen to them seperately, they just cut off or jump start
>>
>>65421278
Invalid, they even end that chorus properly earlier in the song, so they know how to.

>>65421279
Having the outro go to a crescendo would be equally effective.

I get that fading out a track is lazy in most situations but in some cases it can be musically or even thematically appropriate, just like abrupt endings.

Y'all mention Pet Sounds but God Only Knows is actually a perfect example of a well-earned fade-out, you don't just set up a perpetual round and end it

It depends, when it works it works a really slow fade out while same thing gets played over and over is a good closer, sometimes
