From what I can tell, this is the same place 98.12.28 took place at, has a shorter version of Long Season, is pretty much a mix of the gap between their Oh! Mountain live album and 98.12.28, sort of a mix of both which should be pretty cool.
From what Google Translate tells me, apparently they'll have another live DVD coming out soon as well. Hopefully their Space Shower DVDs are reissued soon too because those are expensive as fuck.

Brötzmann / Parker / Drake - Never Too Late But Always Too Early
>>65413761
nah aumgn is great. I imagine a big fucking large beast in a cave awakening from a 1000 years sleep. the vocals are amazing, basically the OM of life, while the parts that come before and after are the logical conclusion/initialization of it. the various sound collages add another layer of substance, like the dogs barking are just crazy...
Two questions:
- How do I become more immersed in the /daily/ community? I find it hard to join in some of the converstations.
- Does anyone here like Future Islands? They're not rated particularly highly on rateyourmusic, but I find them to have a really good take on synthpop.
>>65413728
Tago Mago is a great example of why you don't need drugs to feel a certain way
>>65413809
>>65413689
Both of these sound too bad.
>>65413832
Yes, and I do like it. But how often do you want to listen to the whole thing through?
I can groove to all 18 mins of Halleluhwah any time anywhere, but Aumgn fails on repeated listens for me. Not enough substance to warrant for than 5 listens, and it's sad to say because I consider it one of my favourite albums.

nah well you could see it that way if you've never tried drugs. i do agree that this is structured as a drug trip and makes the best to resemble it - how amazing is it that after the aumgn and peking o business it returns to the rock of the first part with bring me coffe? it's just like waking up from a bad dream like nothing ever happened - but with some weed this would be even more of a journey. you have to like it first though.

I like to think of TVU&Nico in a similar light, as a story that follows a character through New York City in a single day.
Sunday Morning is waking up after a drunken and drug-fuelled night; tired and confused, they seek to return to their high, so they go off to buy more drugs (which is obviously I'm Waiting for the Man). Then they go and have a bunch of kinky drugged sex, they enter some brothel or some seedy place where they encounter certain unique characters (Femme Fatale, Venus in Furs). In the same place, the character meets and speaks with some people who are in a similar drugged situation and describe their circumstances to the main character (Run Run Run). One of them has a non-drug related problem; she is in a certain artsy clique and doesn't no what to where to a party (All Tomorrow's Parties).
Side two of the album starts with the entrance peak of the high (Heroin) in which the character feels willing to give up all of his being to drugs. The character goes and has sex with his favourite prostitute but doesn't feel great about it due to her promiscuity (There She Goes Again). I have no idea where I'll Be Your Mirror comes into the story. The best/last two tracks are the climactic downfall of his sexual and narcotic high as he enters an insane mental state, only to wake up the next morning feeling down (Sunday Morning).
>>65413958

This isn't my first time listening to Third, but it's amazing. Very close to being a 10.

that's a cool way to see it. i think it could also be the correct interpretation because the lyrics are kind of obvious

3x3 is a good size
V.quick v.bad blurbs
Robert Wyatt - Rock Bottom
I want to give this several more listens. I like it and can tell it'll grow as I get more familiar. Interesting Residentsy sound, but used 'conventionally'ish, on the first track. 3.5++
Gandalf - Gandalf
Comfy 60s psych a la country Joe, iron butterfly, etc. I could see this being a genre I spend a lot of time in. this album was not mindblowingly fresh, a little forgettable on first listen, but charming and solid, so I'll give another listen. 3.0
Cornelius - Fantasma
very fun sound, Fun use of samples, great Robert Schneider appearance. I love how much they try here, even if some of it (robot counting, for example) is a bit annoying. I definitely want to hear more of this stuff . 4.0+
Supertramp - crime of the century
Great, exciting opener but shrinks into unexciting 70s butt rock after that. a few more shining moments, but not many, unfortunately. 2.5+
Fuzzy Duck - Fuzzy Duck
if the supertramp record were charismatic, engaging and fun. 3.0+
Yes Sir, I Will. - real nice
Uchu Nippon Setagaya - not as good as long season but still nice
ultra-posuer Bulgarian throat singing thing - nice
Son House - no thank
hoedh and jacks later or tomorrow or never
On the agenda for today.
What are you fellers listening to?
>>65414726
this. Stay up far later than you usually would and you will start to think in weird (sometimes scary) ways
>>65415050
My favourite is V. It really taught me to (forgive the cliché) forget what I thought I knew about the structure and tropes of a novel. In my opinion, if you go into V expecting a linear narrative with problems that end in resolutions, you will be greatly disappointed.
>>65415381
My reasons are extant but highly cryptic
Brainticket - Cottonwoodhill
[1970]
>krautrock, sound collage
You could have put everything underneath the vocals and I still would've liked the release. Fucking fantastic vocal performance, also the sound collage going on over the spaced out riff isn't too bad. The first two tracks are cool too I guess. Love the structure.

deprivation of sleep is amazing, sometimes i just stay awake 40+ hours and have end up not having control of my body/doing everything automatically/feel just like i'm a head floating on my neck. it's the weirdest shit, but it's very exhaustive.

Sleep deprivation made machine gun a surreal experience for me. While listening with headphones and experiencing that "head floating" feeling, I was totally immersed in the panic the music portrayed

Jangle&Bojangle’s top 5 shenanigans off the top of his head
1. Dressing up as Hitler (buddy was Stalin) for a school project and baking a nazi cake
2. Drive-by water gunning / water ballooning (10 of us in a truck) the main school exit at the end of the last day
3. Drew a pentagram on my buddies forehead (same one as war video story) when he crashed overnight from a party, he had to wake up super early & bike 45mins to go to church the next day. He didn't notice the pentagram.
4. Knew the PA code for every Walmart in the area and abused the fuck out of it
5. Used to play “who can get kicked out of the store the fastest” with a group of buddies

GUN CONTROL GUN CONTROL
This album is really cool and different.
I especially like the percussion polyrhythms and speed of the "playing". It's like a demented train chug-chugging it's way down a mountain to the nearest cult meeting.
The last track is probably the weirdest and also the longest, but looses my attention at parts.
Overall I like a lot.

I want to like this more, I really do, but I'm fixated on the lyrics and singing (i'm known to do this). The drumming is really great, and sets the pace of the album more than any instrument imo. The guitar hooks are solid and the interplay feels both natural and tight.
If I could give serious criticism it would be:
1. More complex/esoteric lyrics
2. More emotional or unique vocal delivery
3. Mix it up! Throw some different flavour into a few songs
You guys are really cool, but due to ^^^ I can't put it into "love it" territory. There's some really great musicianship however and I'm definitely interested in hearing upcoming endeavours.

Thanks, trying my hardest. On academic probation but I'm doing everything in my power to get things back together.
>i can tell you were kind of depressed just looking at your chart. lots of heavy, long form stuff.
Perhaps this sounds a bit counterintuitive but it was therapy/antitherapy of sorts. It fueled a lot of the negative feelings and thoughts but at the same time putting them in the front of my mind allowed me to confront them and deconstruct the underlying behavior and thought patterns that were a result of the depression and served to perpetuate it.
>with that in mind, here's some slightly heavy recs mixed with some slightly brighter recs to hopefully fit your better state of mind.
Thanks, I'll give them all a listen throughout the week.
>idk how depression really works so that might have just been completely wrong, but you get what i mean.
Complex disease. I know it's a bit of a meme on the internet nowadays but when you've got it it ruins your life. You can't go back to the person you were, even when you've got it under control. Let it fester for nearly 5 years before seeking treatment. I'd recommend anyone here to see a psychologist or psychiatrist before it gets to that point.
>any questions about this place right off the bat?
I'll figure it out in time. Been on the chans for a while now, 2008ish I guess. It just took an episode of depression for me to really appreciate music. That's why I'm new here.
