What's the best Vaporwave album?
Pic related is my choice
>>65405894

Eccojams is easily my favourite. The best vaporwave was created before vaporwave was a thing

Ouch...keep that edge in check, would you?
Saint Pepsi - Hit Vibes if that counts. Future funk is a vaporwave subgenre, right?
Blank Banshee 0 is fucking genius, imo.
>>65405963
I agree with you, although it's certainly not because it was the first.

I'll Try Living Like This. It's innovative and traditional, cheerful and tragic, explicit and metaphoric at the same time, perfect from beginning to end. It tells a story and describes a landscape, it makes you cry. It's art in its purest (and modern) form.
>>65412764
True, but it's become a meme album at this point.
I was looking for something less known...
>>65410424
It's definitely creative, but definitely not genius.
Definitely better than 1 though, don't know why everyone likes 1 better

>>65414806
I haven't heard them all yet since they're 16 fucking hours total and counting, but my latest favorite is 爱的吸收 (Absorption), an ambient track in the truest sense.
It got featured on Nirvana Port:
http://nirvanaport.bandcamp.com/album/--2
Also friendly reminder that the first 31 singles are compiled as an album here:
https://telepathtelepath.bandcamp.com/album/--32
This should be useful for anyone willing to play them successively on BandCamp without downloading each one.
Telepath is still making tracks for VDP and just released 3 new ones last week, so keep an eye out for more.
>>65414862
You're welcome, tripfag.
I think Atmospheres 3 and 4 are lazy, and nowhere near the quality of 1 & 2.
This beyond a shadow of a doubt.

They don't, really.
I like the album a lot but I don't get all the ongoing praise for it, because if you listen to it several times it gets pretty stale.
To me, it was a "current favorite" the first time I listened to it. But it grew boring and now I want something newer to fill the position.
You get me?
Btw its remix edition (pic related) is shit aside from like 2 or 3 tracks.
I'm confident that by the end of this thread /mu/ will come to a 100% consensus for the greatest vaporwave album.
Asking /mu/ to name the greatest shoegaze album however would be fruitless as there would be endless bickering.

>Pretty sure plunderphonics is a production style and not a genre.
The term "plunderphonics" was invented by John Oswald, one of the most experimental composers of the last century, and if you listen to any of his albums you can say it's a unique genre, because nothing else sounds like that. The problem is that "plunderphonics" used to describe vaporwave is highly inappropriate. It's neither a style nor a subgenre.

Damn it bandcamp, why didn't I know about this??

>>65417882
Because it's obviously a shit album that they felt would not fit on Dream Catalogue nor dds.wmv's personal BandCamp... So they threw it on Orange Milk, the only label that agreed because it needed the publicity.
>>65417858
A true patrician knows that good music is good regardless of popularity. You, whom still cannot tell the difference between a timeless masterpiece that is rightly popular, and a trend hopping transient flavor of the month buzz album still have far to go in your arduous quest to achieve patriciandom.

Did you know that only one person worked on this album?
While dds.wmv are most known for being a duo (James Webster X Tech Honors), most of their albums are actually solo efforts. Only 1 album was made by both members, and another 2 albums were by James X Keith Rankin (aka Giant Claw, who's not even in the group). One of the latter 2 albums was ITLLT...
See pic related, posted by James himself.

vaporwave may be shitty at times but at least it's a somewhat original genre and not 90s hardcore electronica/gabber with some bullshit russian cyberpunk storyline baked in
>>65405894
Even though Vaporwave is kind of a joke genre, I feel like it has an "accidental stroke of genius" feel to it at times.
Like, when they slowed down that Diana Ross song and put it along with Windows 95 imagery, somehow it all "clicked" perfectly, creating a feeling of childhood nostalgia along with a strange feeling of being in a neon Japanese mall and drowning in their mall fountain. This is despite the fact that diana's song was recorded before Win95 even came out. And despite the fact that the song, when it was recordedat its "normal" speed, doesn't seem to have any Jap-like or mystical feel to it. Know what I'm saying?
It's like how The Beatles accidentally sped up the piano in "In My Life", giving it a posh/baroque feel that worked very well (even though that wasn't their intention when they recorded it at the normal speed).
The music also perfectly captures the nostalgia, warmth, and slight eeriness of older technology. You know that ending of 420 with the stuttering music? To me, that excellently captures the feel of a 90s computer powering down or glitching out, and the slight disturbance or uncanny valley we felt as kids, seeing the normal-looking visuals of the DOS game we were playing abruptly freezing up, crashing, and being flipped into a weird-color nightmare.
