Slowdive's Pygmalion is amazing to listen to once you're going through the desert of NM and AZ. Be sure to stop at Pappy and Harriet's in Pioneertown (explore Joshua Tree beforehand) and the Palms in Wonder Valley before you get to Los Angeles.
