Can anybody give me any recommendations for lesser known progressive rock bands from the 70's? I like bands that produce longer conceptual suites or just like to jam. Anything would be appreciated!
god roger is so fucking weird looking
The Grateful Dead and Jethro Tull come to mind, especially the Dead. Also look up Joseph -- Stoned Age Man.

Any Canterbury scene stuff. Particularly fond of The National Health and Hatfield and the North.

Would need to get an idea of what you already know, but Van der Graaf Generator is the cream of the crop for the bands on the tier below Pink Floyd/King Crimson/Yes/Genesis popularity. Curved Air, Camel and Soft Machine are also up there.
If you don't mind taking a wider conception of prog a bit, you could try Comus (prog folk) and Mahavishnu Orchestra (jazz fusion).
