Does mu like Black Messiah? I think it's great. Is it the best Funk/Soul/R&B album to come out in the past few years?

Is it better than Voodoo? Looking for more albums like that.
Seriously, this album is fantastic. I'd rate it higher than Channel Orange.
Pretty sure it's well-received around here. It's definitely the best of those genres released this decade. It's fantastic almost all the way through it

I actually haven't listened to Voodoo, believe it or not. I started with Black Messiah and haven't worked my way backwards yet.

It's very close to Voodoo in quality, thought it depends on your tastes, as Black Messiah has a pretty different sound. Think something along Sly Stone's "There's a Riot Goin' On". Definitely check it out; it's got just as many kill grooves and excellent musicianship/songwriting as Voodoo

I wasn't sure how it would be received. Mu doesn't seem super into funk and soul and I thought some of the social/political themes might turn people off, like with TPAB
Awesome album, almost psychedelic r&b. The amazing thing about D'Angelo is that there is nobody else that sounds like D'Angelo, especially on Voodoo and Black Messiah; Brown Sugar is a little more samey.
This was my album of the year and I'm a whitey

Only if your scope of Funk/Soul/R&B of the past few tears is limited to the 3 albums Pitchfork reviewed.
