tell me something you love about something you listened to
or hate
tell me about what made you respond with strong emotions in other words
also recommend and discuss stuff
but mostly keep me company in these lonely times
me I love how dramatic shostakovich's string quartet no 8 is
I don't have a good vocabulary or good knowledge but it's just really captivating and big and dark and I like it
This is kind of a general thing but I love and hate how what you're listening to can get connected to shit that is going through in your life, be it good or bad, so for example back in 2007 I broke up with my girlfriend cause she cucked me and I was listening to The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me at the time so whenever I listen to that album I get reminded of that which is unfortunate.

>>65373067
thanks this seems like I'll really love reading it and maybe I'll stop being so clueless
ps you're missing a row tsk tsk
>>65372846
I like some finnish post-punk but I haven't heard any psych rock
what makes it so special do you think
>>65372607
I like that attitude I also like stereolab and jatamati damacy
what is beijing opera and how does it relate to the regular flavored
>>65372543
oh kiss me
beneath the milky twilight
>>65372457
on yeah
the brain is really powerful in that way
I don't have anything so tragic, but whenever I listen to Jenny Owen youngs I have really vivid memories of being a sadsack in 10th grade and locking myself away playing mirrors edge
I think it's kind of nice to have such a strong connection even if it's negative emotions attached
maybe that's just me
>>65373495
hey yeah seoulite was pretty damn good, how's her older stuff? that's her first album on your collage right
also I love epik high but I've never looked into any solo stuff this is gorgeous
that singer is incredible gonna have to look into her stuff too
maybe check out jang pil soon's third album, she's got this beautiful husky voice
ps vashti Bunyan rules
>>65373742
First Love is more soulful, than Seoulite, it's really nice. "Because" is her best song.
Oh, and thanks I'll check out Jang Pil Soon.

Theatre and music or something. Do you like Chinese trad, Ruf?
>>65373945
HE'LL yeah
I haven't listened to much compared to Japanese or Korean so I don't know much of anything about instruments, styles, context, etc but dang it it's pretty maybe that's enough
do you have some recs
>>65373917
neat I'll definitely have to check it out
I liked that song she did with the akmu girl too
speaking of, didn't akmu put out a new song recentl? I should listen to it
oh here I uploaded her whole discography if you want it
https://mega.nz/#F!OcUVnLTK!DqEZyc5JqCgUZOBSQPmgSQ
the one I recced is the fourth one, with 12 songs but really they're all pretty good

Yu Xunfa - Master of Chinese Traditional Music: Dizi
Various Artists - The Ruse of the Empty City: A Traditional Peking Opera
The Silk String Quartet - Contemporary and Traditional Chinese Music
Rec me back some Korean stuff outside of Byungki Hwang (who I'll be listening to sometime soon probably) please
>>65374162
byungki hwang plays sanjo on the gayageum
basically sanjo is the dopest, it's an instrument, usually a zither like the gayageum or maybe a flute but really anything, accompanied by a drum
is very intimate and dramatic and dynamic music
for something a bit different from hwang (who's a bit experimental and fusiony often) I really love yi saenggang
I don't know if there are any albums of his playing, but watch some live performances some time
https://youtu.be/XaOOK7UbYJU
as far as albums go in the style, this guys got a nice overview of some other instruments so you can get comfy with them in a more minimal setting
https://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/kim_sungah__sim_sangnam__lee_taebaek__kim_chungman/young_sanjo/
it's pretty nice
also it's got a good little preview of sinawi, which is an ensemble of flutes and strings and drums all together, and it's usually improvised
sinawi's something I've been meaning to look more into because it's kinda like jazz weirdly
I've only heard this as far as albums go but it's really passionate and energetic
http://www.allmusic.com/album/sinawi-music-of-korea-mw0000101972
and then there's pansori which is basically the folk singing side of things
I also don't know too much about this style but it's basically like epic poems sung in a folk style along with a drum
I imagine it's a lot cooler if you can understand the words, but even so the vocal style is pretty neat
again only heard one album but it's a doozy
https://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/김순옥/pansori___koreas_epic_vocal_art_and_instrumental_music/
oh and korean minyo because why not
https://youtu.be/WHHN4mMVEww
basically it's like pansori's fun lighthearted hardworking working class cousin
mostly I haven't looked much into recordings yet, just clicking around YouTube and looking up the big names and reading little articles and books and things but hopefully you find something you like
>>65374974
whoa calm down there charles dickens
>>65373067

procol harum, steely dan, mingus, blakey, ohnuki, mane
i've just started moving into less avant-garde jazz, but you could try eberhard weber/colors - silent feet or maupin's jewel in the lotus, they're the most underrated jazz albums I've come across.
is kytytsl any good? looks interesting
>>65376979
also i really liked purson off my chart. Some hard psych rock. Also recommend the lully suite by savall and maybe intimate rituals if you're into avant garde.
>>65376952
oh yeah it's definitely my favorite thing this year that's not luna
they couldn't have been more tasteful considering what happened, it was the perfect sweetspot where it's not overly cheery so as to pretend nothing ever happened, but not so overwrought or exploitative as it could have been
just right
I love seeing all the kpop on there I just love it
how's that g.na? her last mini a few years ago was alright
I think last thing I heard she left her company and also was accused of being a literal prostitute instead of just effectively one
>>65376979
they're really great, Chris thile is a god damn monster on mandolin
if you get around to listening to it and like it, also try chris thile and edgar meyers stuff together, so nice
oh yeah and sistar comeback soon get hype summer song fun on the beach woooo
