You bring great shame to your kin and yourself.
Thoughts on bassbreaker series?
Loved my time with the 18/30 and am starting to consider the 45 over a deluxe reverb
>>65278663
tasteful as fuck. you even managed to find a fully bound axe with gold hardware that doesn't come across as ostentatious. are those coil taps? do you use them much?
>>65278848
I am pretty keen on getting my hands on a Bassbreaker 15, IMO the best thing Fender has done in the amp department for a long time.
>>65279135
Agreed. Beautiful modern designs too. Love the black tweed look.
I haven't tried the 15 though. Do you think the lack of a reverb built in is bad? Or is a reverb pedal in the effects chain a good substitute? (There is no effects loop)
>>65278847
i'm already wasting time shitposting, i'm not going to spend anymore time looking for an old hag in the archive
>>65279098
yep, coil taps. I use them a lot, especially humbucker bridge + single coil neck. Actually im planning to sell both lespaul and tele because i dont play them much ever since i bought the jackson. Its so comfortable and sounds so good. I play metal, rock, jazz, blues and some other slow stuff with it. Honestly, i cant explain how much i love this guitar.

also anyone have the seymour duncan vapour trail?
>>65279297
I'd opt for a reverb pedal, and the 15 watt does in fact have an effects loop, the 7 watt model does not how ever.
>>65279620
huh, weird they mixmatched different features in each model
reverb and fx loop only in 15
footswitch and channel selector only in 18/30
presence and attenuator only in 45
45 is most appealing to me with 59' bassman circuit
>>65278848
fender's choice to use EL34s in the power amp is intriguing. they almost always use 6L6s or 6V6s. the only exceptions i can think of are the bassman 300 pro, which uses 6550s, the blues jr with EL84s, and the 'twin amp pro tube' with 7581s. it makes me wonder if they're using a typical fender tone stack or if that's off the beaten path as well. i haven't seen/heard one in person yet
>>65279481
wat no backup guitar? i dunno man, only sell if you absolutely need the cash.
>>65279523
nah but i do appreciate the volunteer babysitting. truly the lord's work
>>65279918
backup guitar is uneccessary for me since i only play at home :P
>>65280048
hmm. still useful for home recordings. things get stale if every layer is the same instrument. i feel like a divorce lawyer giving the obligitory try once more to work it out speech
>>65280176
Not him, but it isn't the tool, but how you use it. Even with the same guitar, it can be played many different ways. That's not even counting different pickup settings, tone selection, amps and pedals and effects.
>>65280176
ahahah no worries tho, i will buy a semi-hollow after i sell them. btw i also dont do recordings. i only play the stuff i like and thats all
>>65280227
no no no
just buy more things
>>65280227
you're right, but it's still true that every instrument has it's flavor and that flavor is exaggerated as the layers pile up. having a variety of amps helps as does something like a coil tap. there's still no way to play a guitar to make it sound like *not* that guitar. from experience, the power of heavy multitracking is directly tied to instrument variety.
I love my Spider iv. Everyone shits on this amp and for what? Most people give this amp a bad rep because they can't dial in a good tone. Scooped mids and too much bass isnt good. You have to raise the mids and lower the bass then add some reverb and it sounds fine. What do you think?
>>65280709
ive seen the same text last thread
>>65280810
Youre right it was me. Just making this point again because it went largely ignored. It isnt a bad amp at all certainly a tube amp can destroy this but it does well with introducing so many effects. It is a good start.
>>65280889
oh oki
Can anyone recommend a small amp on the cheaper side for my Martin LX1E? I'll be using it mostly in my apartment and the occasional coffee shop.
>>65280889
>it does well with introducing so many effects
That would be it's only redeeming quality. and even then, multifx pedal just do a better job overall. To me, this amp sits in a very awkward spot among all other practice amps. It's still better than a berhinger
>>65281089
What are some better practice amps out there that would be superior to the line 6?
I honestly dont know what to get after this amp.
>>65280709
>Everyone shits on this amp and for what?
It's a Line 6
>>65281237
check H&K tubemeister 18 and blackstar ht1-r
>>65280709
The distortion on this is way too fizzy, fluff did a video where he tried his best to make it sound good, and I think it just sounds acceptable, but nothing more.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zxKIkf8ORCI
If you just have 100$ to spend on an amp, either save your money or buy an interface, pirate some plugins and run some amp sims, there's no point in these small, cheap bedroom amps.
>>65281237
if you already have it as a practice amp, just keep it and save up to buy a good non-practice amp later

I agree that it is handy to have a secondary guitar for recording, a guitar has tone knobs and separate pickups but it will still sound much alike regardless of separate takes.

>>65281237
Get a real amp and then you will realize the flaming pile of garbage it is, hell even a peavey vypr or roland cube amp is a better choice or if you want tubes go a small wattage head; Blackstar, orange, H&K etc.
>>65281250
Familiar with the Liine 6 DT25? certainly not a bad amp.

>>65281477
As a practice amp why would you get anything different than a cube or something in that vain.
>>65281477
eh, I wouldn't bother as it's merely a practice amp that you would have sitting on your desk in your office, if you want orange then get a Tiny Terror or Dark Terror
>>65281518
Yep for a practice amp. I could imagine it being used for gigging but certainly small gigs not clubs or bigger. Who knows.
>>65281486
Well, you are wrong on that one, and what would be your point? you haven't even subjectively critiqued what it is that you don't like about it, just throwing around the 'ol but its Line 6 and worse yet copy and pasting me prior response as a retort.
>>65281579
I have a Micro Dark. Haven't gigged with it but I'm positively sure I could, I jammed with a bassist and drummer and didn't even turn it all the way up.
Do yourself a favor and get a 1x12" though. The 8" they offer doesn't cut it.
Also the tone knob sucks dick compared to an actual 3 band EQ.
When they say all F's are sharped does that mean the F's on top or bottom as well.
>>65281014
Post pics so I can envy you
Also try some fender amps, they got some smooooth cleans
>>65281579

>>65281547
>>65281518
If I were to hypothetically gig with a Spider iv but the 75 watt or higher. How much shit would I get for that?
>>65281639
The single sharp symbol applies to all Fs, regardless of register. It is unusually explicit about this on the top right of the page.
>>65281667
I have used one both with and without a pod floor unit, I prefer just using the amp with separate pedals going through the loop, and there you go again with the ''hurr durr its line 6 so its inherently shit''
>>65281687
Why would you want to? If you get in a band as a guitar player you should always aim to improve on as many fronts as possible including your tone and gear. Gear should never be a limit. The only possible reason I can imagine why you would use it is if you are in a weird experimental band where the spiders sound is exactly what you are looking for.
>>65281740
Yes i saw that, I"m learning on my own, not that that's an excuse but I was confused because honestly i'm not sure if the other F's
on the 4th and 6th string were considered F's and maybe not F minor or something other.
Thanks though.
>>65281687
But why would you want to go from the 15/30 watt to the 75 watt? assuming you are >>65280709 that is, I would concentrate on upgrading and bettering your gear, not buying the same turd but bigger and smellier.
>defending line 6 amps
they're just shit, don't try and fluff it up
yes, i've tried even their high end stuff. Just isn't good
however, they do make other good units that aren't amps
>>65281833
NP, it's nice to call in a santity check evey once in a while when learning shit on your own.
>>65281968
Yea, I use a Pod X3 all the time at home (apt w/ paper thin walls) and the idea of attaching speakers to a piece of Line 6 gear just seems antithetical. There's a use-case where modeling really shines and it isn't in a live situation.

What the fuck man
Just played through an amp for the first time in nearly a year, goddamn. I missed it. Amplitube with headphones isnt the same. And it was just my shitty old 20 watt Raven solid state...
Anyways, I wanna get an amp again. Tonally, I'm looking for an amp that has a "punk" breakup (even tho I dont play punk). I dont wanna go over 400 or 500, and Im living in a house with a bunch of friends next year so Id prefer something that either has line out, attenuator, master volume, etc. I sold my AC4TV a year ago because it was too loud, but Im looking for something along those lines.
What model guitar does Jeff use live (accoustic) anyone know? Sounds warm as hell
>>65282575

>>65282481
Why does it say "Line 6 Spider IV 15"? All I can hear is a snare.
>>65278663
Nice but what amp do you use? That'll be the deciding factor for me
>>65282353
Pic related is what's left of a 1965 ES-335 (estimated $10000) after a flight.
You should be scared.
>>65282479
Moving to my new residence. I don't have family here so I can't leave anything.
So far the flight case has made me feel comfortable about the guitar(s) juuuust a bit more, still fucking scared though, because of TSA having the clear to open it and fuck around.
2 Guitars and 1 Bass. Maybe the 5 watt combo should come along too... Dunno, this would be easier if I didn't have so much gear I didn't want to sell.

>>65282822
You always have the option to buy a plane ticket for your guitar.
>>65282726
Oh, but I'm getting a rugged flight case, not just hardshell, with TSA locks and everything to avoid as much shit as possible.
But yeah, horror stories are everywhere, I even remember that dude from a country band making a song of his fucked by delta or AE or so guitar.
>>65282799
I'm kidding.
tobedesu, I only lurk /gg/ so I wouldn't know for real.
>>65282447
Because 90% of todays players are high gain players. I feel like with amp reviews you either get blues players who play A minor pentatonic all fucking day or you get high gain fucks. I fucking hate the tone guys like fluff and glenn get. They overcompress everything which creates such a boring flat sound.
>>65282799
>>65282842
It's pretty obvious that he is talking about Jeff Magnum but that doesn't excuse >>65282799
for being an arsehole. This is /gg/ we pick on the drummers not each other
>>65282927
That happens less and less often these days m8. Some airlines straight up only allow only one ticket per passenger, and some will just straight up get pissy with you for trying to take an instrument on board, whether there's room or not.
Thoughts on old Music Man heads? looking into one to replace my Fender because it's become such a nightmare, makes more sense to just buy a new amp rather than keep dumping money into it.

You'd be buying an old amp that could become a nightmare?
Played with one once in a gig. It was beat up to hell, but it was nice.
They are basically hot rodded fender designs, just like music man guitars.

>>65283282
I've posted extensively about what a horrendous ordeal my Dual Showman has been, and last night a shattered tube was added to the list of issues. The music mans seem a bit more reliable due to the SS preamp + most of them you see for sale have already been re-capped since the original parts weren't heing worshipped by toan-chasing blues lawyers, while offering a similar sound to what I'm going for. And they're cheap as hell.

Then yeah, my experience with an old beat up MM is that it looked banged like an old whore but ran nice.
They are cheap, that's true.
Not much to lose with them imo.
>>65283557
Fender probably can't be sold at this point, last guy who worked on it blackfaced it w/o asking and now that's part of the mess I need to fix with it. I'm basically left with no choice but to get it in semi-working order so I can play some big shows I have coming up, but I want to jump ship ASAP

Not him, and although I don't dislike Ukuleles, I hate the recent trend with them. It's just so... social media heavy, with preppy girls and guys doing covers of radio songs and shit. Less of an instrument and more of a popular thing to do right now. Which is ok I guess, but it's less music and more circlejerk.
Voodoo Child is one of my favourite songs, so, I guess it sounds cool to most because of the inital impression, but after that it's just a meme, not something I'd take seriously unless I composed seriously (ala over the rainbow stuff), because besides the "shock impression" why would you overdrive an ukulele? it lost it's signature sound and now it's just an overdriven guitar.
>uke is the gay dude who gets his shit pushed in, in yaoi (aka, gay) manga
>>65283924
My point was that Ukuleles are not just a hipster instrument and can achieve what a guitar can for a more affordable price. Maybe using that video was a bad example because James Hill's whole shtick is that he can create a whole "band" with one ukulele (bassline, drums etc)

I bought a 20 quid ukulele so I could play some jazz and some....metal when I was bored. It's a very simple instrument and that's why a lot of teeny vloggers flock to it so they can write their shitty songs and rack up loads of views. But, I think that the Uke is cool due to what people like James Hill can do with 4 strings.

Pretty cool if you have to have something as small as a les paul I would personally prefer a semi-hollow with a slightly larger body for more "acoustic" sound. Like an ES137 which should be around the same price or cheaper.

I don't have one currently, but it's on my list.
why do people hate flametops they look nice
i myself like plain natural looking wood finish but those also look nice

i don't like natural finishes either desu though it mostly depends on the guitar
flametops tend to look tacky, its a shame gibson has pretty much ditched plain tops on standard models

>>65285222

They are nice, but easy to get wrong.
Ace Frehly (glam look), Jimi Page (subtle), and so on are nice.

This was me back in high school when I started. I used to endlessly lurk guitar pages for guitars with those features (and a FR trem of course).
I never got close to owning a 24 ebony fret guitar in my teens, even though it was/is considered the holy thing to do for shred guitars.
When I played small time gigs I thought I really needed bolt on necks (in case of breaking them).
I no longer have guitar autism and just play whatever has strings, holds tune, and the action isn't golden gate tier.

Where were you when the guitar turned into a harpsichord?
>>65286647
>>65286810
Thanks friends
If there are two repeat measure symbols one right after the other, do you repeat the last two measures, or repeat the last measure twice?
>>65286896
I wish it sounded rad like a harpsichord, mad bach skillz.
The guitar finishes don't bother me much, but I don't see the point of extended ranges if they literally only play three string at most.
They could do with a single string, and have another guitar with 4 high strings for the single arpeggio they do in the whole song.
So literally, why more than 6 if you never use them? Even if it was for creativity, there are people who are more creative with less strings or if they use more, surely use them better.
>>65287001
I don't know if I'm picturing it right, can you draw it?
Either you note how many times it repeats the whole section, or if it's a bar immediately after the repeated one, you repeat what is marked in the second after the first repeat.

>>65287206

>>65287095
Last measure twice, it just indicates to repeat the last measure, so it could be
A % % %
D/E % % %
like a bluesy shuffle, where you play A for four whole measures, then D and E same.
>>65287071
Extended Chords ala Gorguts and some Jazz acts are cool, but most of the djent retards only use them for power chords in low strings.
Also if you tune to standard, the whole length of a scale from octave to octave will be there as much as needed, so a full fledged solo is already possible... unless you need like 60 octaves I guess.
>>65287042

but seriously you sound like a huge faggot that just came from /v/
>>65287387
Stop buying shit you don't even know how to use first.
Play only one until you're comfortable with knowing how they act.
After all of them are in your head, work with two at the same time, different configs.
Slowly start building up your chain.
This should have happened naturally but you probably bought them too quickly too soon.
>>65287526
Some PC components are overpriced, like anything gaming marked, the rest are cheap because they can be constructed through fully automated processes.
Consoles are cheap because they are mostly sold at loss first until the tech catches up and they become cheap to make.
Amps aren't overpriced imo, unless you buy boutique or hyped up amps.
I checked in the past, and they tend to be properly priced, taking into account quality, components, construction, etc.
Guitars are overpriced due to brand recognition, or because they are hand made.
Paying for high quality human work is expensive.
So either you accept to be a first world consumer of cheap shit from factories with slaves (check up cort-tek docu and related shit), or pay the right price of a human living in decent conditions for a handmade.
Until CNC finesse and some parts can be done almost completely automated, guitars will be expensive.
Gibsons are overpriced due to a self fulfilling market problem... if they are priced right, people think they are skimping in quality, so brand value depreciates.
Mexican/USA guitars are priced alright imo, maybe the special editions a bit too much.
Japanese made guitars are the right price.
Everything in slave asia is slave tier quality.
Some euros are handmade quality (warwick/framus) and priced accordingly.

But they might be an exception to the rule with heavily trained slaves and a quality check slave master.

Yeah, I like AAL but dent peaked with the release of their debut album. Abase is an excellent technician but I haven't heard anything super interesting from him in a while that isn't an extension of what he did on that first record. But he is undeniably at the forefront of modern shred and has many imitators.
Bumble foot was the touring guitarist for Guns & Roses up until very recently. I don't think he's as well-known as some of the others I mentioned but his speed, phrasing, and creativity have undoubtedly influenced the modern guitar landscape.
I should have also added Nick Johnston to the list. He's been showing up as a guest soloist on a lot of shreddy bands' releases these days. Very versatile, musical guitarist. Kind of a halfway point between Buckethead and Bumblefoot.
>>65287874
djent* peaked
Derp.
>>65287836
We don't need to talk about theory all the time. But some people posted theory questions and some jams in this thread, not bad.
>>65287874
My problem with Abasin is that although he's technically gifted, what he executes is indeed very monotone, like one trick poneh kind of thing.
But maybe I'm biased because I dislike djent and so I never heard anything of AAL besides that one music video where they play the same scale over and over.
>>65287943
hes boring as fuck
>>65287943
I keep following his instagram where he posts some small clips, he's definitely becoming more expressive imo.
Also yeah CAFO is hugely overrated, aside from the tapping part it's pretty boring, especially compared to other AAL tracks.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cn_d4t7KWkg
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g68hQ4zJ3t0
I wouldn't say he is gifted, according to interviews he apparently spent his youth playing shred, which is where his technique comes from.
>>65287836
I always feel weird posting my playing because it feels like attention-whoring when the general discussion in the thread is more gear-oriented. But here's a short clip of me improvising over a fusion-y backing track, if anyone's interested. Any feedback would be appreciated.
https://clyp.it/zmyzf3ce
>>65287943
Yeah, dude. My feelings exactly. I'm really not a djent fan (I like After the Burial but they sound like After the Burial and not a Periphery or AAL clone). The other guitar players I mentioned on my list are much more versatile and interesting, imo.
>>65288040

tone deaf is stretching it, there are some parts where I feel like it wouldn't have been necessary to keep playing and let it breathe, but that's far from tone deaf.
>>65288165

>>65287874
I saw Abasi during a clinic that he gave, he's pretty good technically, and he also explained some parts about this thumbing technique. He's a pretty cool guy.
Nick Johnston is pretty good too, I like his phrasing. Only complain about him is his palette of tone is pretty much nil, there isn't any stand out effects or sounds in his latest album.
>>65288317
woah what's going on in those two videos? the second one especially.

That's black metal, but using smaller subdivision of octaves, guitars and western music is based on 12 tone equal temperament, but there are other options where you divide the octave in more "notes".
Now it doesn't mean you're always going to sound dissonant, I love this for exemple.

Listen to "arabic" music.
During the division of the early european continent, musically it divided into east and west in the clear example of, whole/half tone music and tempered instruments, and the east with non tempered and microtones.

>>65289081
Turpsy has a Schecter and he makes it sound really great.
I feel they are awesome value for your money but the quality control can vary sometimes (as with any MIK guitar), it's a good idea to play it first and inspect it in person.

Got samples? I always wonder what people do with anything with more than 7.

Yeah, I should have included it at the Counterpoint and Polyphony tier, after all that's what the greats did.

>5A Quilted Maple Top (Amber) + Mahogany Back
why is this even a selling point
most retarded thing i've heard all day

I'm in the market for a new acoustic guitar, ideally something that costs 500~ or less new. I want something not too bright sounding, with a rich, deeper sound. Any suggestions?
tfw can't buy an Ibanez Iceman in my country
>>65289681
takamines are nice
I bought a used Epi Dot that needs about $175 fretwork, should I return it to Guitar Center?
It sounds like a no-brainer, but I was eventually thinking about swapping out the pup's with TV Jones Classics.
On another note, if I returned it, I would have enough cash to afford either an
>American Standard Tele
>American Special Jazzmaster
or a
>MIJ '62 reissue Strat
All used and in the same price range.
I'm extremely indecisive, very cheap, and a little OCD so I'm freaking out.
>>65289756
Return it duh.
If you don't mind vintage frets and 21 frets, go for the MIJ. I heard they have better build quality, but the pickups are weak
>>65289756
If it's literally new, just return it and get them to replace it with a non fucked one.
With the new one you can still replace the pups.
All the other options are dope too, better than the epi imo.
>>65289455
Just generic meme stick shit for the most part. I like have the same range as a bass though so I can add my own bass parts and what not. Also for Trippy piano-like chords.

I'm in israel right now and equipment always costs at least 150% of the normal price, the variety of stuff you can buy here is low.
I want an iceman but I want to play it before I buy it and there are none in any store its sad.
Might even settle for an SG.
So do all you mememachine loving twinkies play djent and prog, while all you fender fags play bluez and dadrock?
>>65289976
i play prog on a
gibson
Isn't it risky to move a guitar on a plane?
I might go to the UK so I guess there will be some time to look for a guitar.
>>65290080
It can be, depends on the airline and plane. Insurance for a guitar costs like 15 bucks though I think, just ask around.
>>65290240
Thanks, will do.
>>65290262
Not him but if you can carry it with you on the plane in a small-ish gig bag.
I have used gator and roadrunner standard gig bags with zero issues.
>>65290262
>>65290410
Also, if you have any questions shoot, I'm a former airline employee and fly at least once a year with a guitar.
>>65290500
Gonna go to sleep soon(it's 5 am here lol), does the plane/different climates between countries affect the guitar when it comes to set up and the finish on the wood? Would you remove the strings before the flight, or can that do more harm than good?
>>65290500
I previously posted that I'm gonna travel with gear.
How can I be 100% sure they won't tell me to shove the guitar in the underside? I don't wanna risk arriving with a gigbag only to be turned down at the gate and have it be sent down...
It's gonna be a transatlantic flight.
What do you think of those flight cases, the rugged ones with clamps, proper padding, and all that, not simply hardshell. Like these: http://www.skbcases.com/music/products/proddetail.php?f=&id=610&o=&offset=&c=82&s=75
Also, if I fly with a ton of gear in gear cases (as a touring band) what's the best way to go around it in reality? using the allotted one checked bag per person or better to send it to location through a postage service?
If broken and and the gear has travel insurance, do claims follow properly or is it just a meme? I don't wanna pay only to be told it meant nothing in the end.
Thanks beforehand, hopefully I can get this out of the way for when I travel.
>>65290723
not that guy but i flew overseas recently. my friend had a gigbag and he just brought it up with him and had no problem putting it up top in the baggage compartment.
i was too nervous so i brought a big case. they told me it had to go underneath. thankfully everything was fine but try and call the airline first.
>>65290627
Humidity and temperature changes affect wood.
As for the plane trip itself, the cargo area is pressurized as well (at least in the ones I know, don't blame if you travel in a coffee maker or some shitplank). there's nothing more dramatic than what you experience in the passenger cabin.
Think basically as if you are shipping the guitar to one place to another, the same will apply.
The differences in humidity and temperature between origin and destination will matter but it will not be instant.
I would not remove strings before a flight, it's unnecessary. I might loosen them a bit but it's not a big deal with electrics and decent truss rods. In the worst case scenario you'll have to adjust it anyways.

> How can I be 100% sure they won't tell me to shove the guitar in the underside?
Be nice. Be very nice!
Usually counter people are treated like shit and seeing a nice face feels good.
What I usually do is to have the gig bag as the only carry on baggage, no other bags or anything else that might tick off the people at the counter. If possible I don't carry a laptop bag.
Worst case if they really want to check that bag, be very nice and polite and ask them to put it on the coat compartment in the cabin or if there's none, ask for them to allow you to check that bag at the gate. When you check it at the gate the usual baggage handlers don't touch your shit and it's done much more gently.
>What do you think of those flight cases
Baggage handlers sure love challenges haha, I wouldn't bet on them but they are nice to have. If you have cash to spare it wouldn't hurt. It will go down in cargo for sure tho. It's very bulky.
> send it to location through a postage service?
Yeah, use a cargo service, passenger airlines love to bleed you for any surcharge they can. You'll pay less in the long run and they have insurance.
>do claims follow properly or is it just a meme?
That will depend on each airline's policy, be sure to check it first. Sometimes they have clauses to save their asses or max amounts of compensation.
Hope it helps, and best of luck!
