I like it. I'm not normally a fan of unclean vocals but the album cover and acclaim drew me in. DESU I am very happy I gave it a try despite it not being my favorite genre of music. At times it is beautiful, at times it is frightening.
Its good as far as post black goes

it's a pretty complete exercise in tying loose ends together, screamo/post-rock/atmosludge/atmospheric black metal/shoegaze that is, and as such was bound to have huge crossover appeal to fans of all those genres
not too different from bands like Lantlos, Envy, Suis la Lune, but different enough

Its solid. The criticism of image always makes me laugh when the subject is music. Deafheaven isn't kvlt, but they don't need to be, and they aren't trying to be.

Real Black Metal fan here. Went to Maryland Deathfest last night and saw Mayhem and Samael in the Edison Lot.
And I love this album. I'm not saying its Black Metal, its just good.
