Oh hey look this is the third song off of the new album that's in the key of D.
Last album half the tracklist was in D.

I wonder if Gira's just completely fucking given up
>>
this song is about his wife getting raped or something right? i commend her for it. and she has a nice voice.
its a fuckin A+ song

This album's gonna get so fucking panned by P4k.

I like it. Its strange for them to release a song thats not very representative of what they're mainly known for but they probably couldnt release some 25min banger.
>>
>>65202038
i liked it a lot actually, but i think the song's theme will not go very well after the recent accusations of rape.

and p4k will pan it for feminist cred
>>
>>65202264
thats true but I am glad Gira didnt cut it. I like it a lot on The Gate back in autumn

Do you guys actually care about the score some nu-male music website is going to give to an album?

If p4k panned things for feminist cred they wouldn't have BNM'd Father John Misty and Ariel Pink recently

They also panned tf out of Charli XCX and she's an outspoken feminist.

it's easy to say bullshit like 'pitchfork gives albums by black artists a free ride' or 'pitchfork will pan this for feminism' if you disagree w their taste or think their writing is bad (which it often is, but uhhh maybe lemonade is just a good album to them and A LOT of people guys)

also this song is great but it does kinda sound like Bring the Sun mixed w/ The Seer Returns, I hope they do newer and more experimental things with this more melancholy/ethereal mood they're returning to

Literally nothing interesting is going on and then halfway through it turns into Bring the Sun, and i don't need 2 of those

it's annoying how people constantly say swans fans are irritating hipsters when every time somebody professes to enjoying the band or wanting to have a discussion about them, a wave of swans haters will be at the ready to tell you how much of a poser you are for enjoying their music.

I don't think i've ever actually seen in my life a band where the detractors are more off-putting than the hardcore fans.

>>
I like it as an intermission track. It comes after the 20min Frankie M and moves into the 29min title track. Reminds me a bit of Some Things We Do, but it does have two distinct parts unlike that song from TBK. Definitely enjoying the heavy use of choir and coral vocals over the snippets I have heard.
>>
>>65202038
Wow, if this song was by....idk...some band you've never heard of, you'd all completely ignore it. Its mediocre AT BEST, predictable and conventional even....
>>
>>65212422
this is a worthless criticism
>>
>>65210632
There are a surprising amount of subtle nods to The Seer on this album and I love them all.
>>
>>65212505
Did you listen to it? please please PLEASE tell me how this is good. The melody is so obvious its practically cringe, the accompaniment is sparse, and not in a good way. There is nothing interesting, unique, catchy, or jolting about this track. HOPEFULLY this track is barebones, hopefully the rest of the album is far better. hoepfully theres some effot put into it AT ALL
>>
>>65212617
Settle down. For all intents and purposes this track is an interlude and gives you a chance to breathe between the behemoths that disc 2 is composed of. It's very necessary.
>>
>>65212617
>the melody is so obvious its practically cringe
i'm not even sure what to take away from this statement, it's an obvious melody? it clearly isn't as it flirts with dissonance at around the 1:14 mark, with the drone in the background conflicting with jennifer's voice. notice the subtle details such as the gothic organ, the electric guitar picking, the drum rolls all building into a strong groove at the 3:04 mark. this is, to me at least, satisfying as jennifer's voice wasn't particularly tuneful and kind of hearkened back to jarboe's vocal tones. then the vocal hook with jennifer's "I'm ali-ii-ii-iiive" is excellent. works well off the guitar notes being played in the background and gira's chanting.

I mean you may not like it, but that's why i personally do. my point is saying that if this was made by a different band nobody would care is a silly criticism because it doesn't actually say anything about the music directly and makes assumptions about people.

>>65212831
The notes that the singer hits are predictable, thats how i feel, i don't know how else i can say it. The accompaniment is too detached from the vocals imo to give it the flavors you're describing.
>>65212920
I STILL feel like you're letting the idea that its a Swans track make you think its better than it is.
>>
Not going to leak the record out of respect for Gira and co., but would anyone be interested in additional tastes of the album that aren't confined to 30 seconds? This album is brilliant and I feel like this single isn't really indicative of the hype it deserves. Will make a new thread if there's enough interest or if anyone has requests. Mr. Snippets here. I wholeheartedly agree with your perspective here, and wouldn't want to listen to any singles beforehand, either. My only exposure to the new songs was during their last tour and they've changed quite a bit since then. But there is undeniably something to be said about going into a Swans album blind. I just assumed that most of the folks who are eager to check out these samples have already listened to whatever else is out there. Plus the album is such a massive labyrinth of sounds that as long as no one is playing these clips repeatedly until the 17th, I don't think it'll spoil all too much.

>>
The vast majority of Swans fans are over 30, at least that's what I've noticed going to their shows.
>>
>>65220022

The actual note that it ends on is less "epic" and more of a chance to catch your breath after finding your way through the title track... which is probably "post-Swans" at their noisiest and grooviest.

>>65219920

I don't want to oversell it or hype it up too much, but as a huge fan of both Seer and TBK, I couldn't be happier with the way the album turned out. It's like a perfect blend of the two with far more memorable moments. There's nothing quite as dense as the droney second half of Seer's title track, or the middle Bring the Sun; that is to say the album is a lot more gratifying upfront, and easier to revisit.

That isn't to say the album is a stroll in the park though. The riffs that Swans bring this time around are abundant, and they are good. So, so good. I really think Gira's compositions are on point more than ever. Since it's Swans, there is of course noise and dissonance to be had, but I do feel like the songs are structured and layered in the best way possible.

If you're into the music this iteration of Swans has been outputting, there's no way you're going to be disappointed with Glowing Man. After a week and a half it's easily cemented itself as my favorite of their post-hiatus releases. At least for the time being.
>>
>>65220230
I would call it heavier as a whole. Some of those noisy, jagged horns from tracks like A Little God are there, but the true heaviness comes in the relentless repetition of riffs. All of the powerhouse tracks feature at least one or two movements of pummeling guitar that I can't get enough of. Frankie M. especially. I can't not lose my shit every time the last few minutes of that track comes around.
>>
>>65220380
The actual note that it ends on is less "epic" and more of a chance to catch your breath after finding your way through the title track... which is probably "post-Swans" at their noisiest and grooviest.

Cool. Do they end the song the same way they do at the end of this vid?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1z6t9qYbQmA
>>
>>65220380
holy shit thank you mr.snippets
I have a question for you. I was a bit disappointed with the BBC excerpt of the title track. Its perfect until the heaviest part starts, when he shouts "I AM A GLOWING MAN I AM". In live versions what followed was just a really sharp and overwhelming wall of noise, but in the BBC excerpt it seemed like the noise was more in the background and the vocals overshadowed it. Is the final version the same?
>>
>>65220557
There's a little bit more after that, but I'd call it more of a comedown (or atmospheric) than anything else. It doesn't go on for too long, but it sets the stage for the closer. A lot better than if they abruptly dove into it after those rise-and-falls, in that video.
>>
>>65220597

>>
>>65220568
I know exactly what you mean, and I want to say it's more towards the subdued side. But "subdued" in that context is nothing to shake a stick at. There is so much going on in that song and it's all so good. It also features the closest Gira comes to Apostate levels of crazy. You guys catch this excerpt from the upcoming DVD yet?

>>
>>65220621
I believe my copy was obtained from someone who received it to review. It's 320 and features no watermarks or anything. I'm willing to bet that plenty of people have had it for a few weeks now.

Initial hype aside, I do think it's my AOTY. Or at least for the first half of the year. My first listen was in the dark of my room with some decent headphones, and it was definitely surreal. Everything I was hoping for and then some. You will have no regrets pre-ordering it, and I couldn't encourage it enough.

This all sounds ace. The one thing I've been wondering is what the 'Cloud' tracks sound like as openers. The live versions sounded quite structureless and chaotic, is this still the case?
>>
>>65220813
Absolutely. That's the second of the two Clouds that kick off the record. Unknowing, I believe.

Which reminds me. I don't think the album starts off with as strong of a hook as Lunacy or Screen Shot bring to the table, but it's a stage-setter for sure. There's some really lovely piano buried in that track, and throughout the album. The first 30 seconds of the final track wouldn't be out of place on AMSP.

You beat me to it, but yeah. The initial Cloud that kicks off the album is a little slower, but its 25 minute followup goes places, and goes Hard at some points. There's a few parts in the song where Gira has made it sound like the world is ending, right before slinking into a lumbering bass groove that builds into the hypnotic riff you get a taste of, in that video you linked. So damn good.

they'll just never fucking top "love will save you"

This

I was a little disappointed too when I noticed that those wailing guitars and wall of noises were gone from the song. But whatever, Gira probably knows what he's doing and it'll grow on me.

I want the album so bad but at the same time I don't want it to leak because I want Gira to be rich

Those Cloud tracks were basically straight drone and from what I hear that's mostly the case on the record. Curious to see how people respond to the album starting with 40 minutes of that after TBK was so streamlined.

I got this swans song stuck in my head and i can't figure out what it is!
It goes something like "can you me to the stair case" not 100% sure if that's right

There's actually hardly any drone in the entire 2 hours that the album runs through. The Clouds are definitely not drone for what it's worth.

Could be literally any song by them then

Why the fuck would the key that a song is in ever matter? Keys don't dictate similarity in any way you autist.
