sometimes I think about this and it does impress me a lot. in six years they went from nobodies to a buzz band to a total phenomena in experimental music, attracted the admiration of Bjork, Bowie, the dude from Pearl Jam, etc etc., and made music that is unbelievably wild. Death Grips have had a lot of artists vocally talk about how important they are to their work... there's no telling if the group will stand the test of time but as of now they are definitely having a huge impact on other people's sounds, and that's pretty damned remarkable for a group that has only been around for 6 years.

Admittedly they aren't too similar to Death Grips, Tackhead took a lot of influence from Funk and Dub Reggae, whereas DG are like Punk meets hip hop with a lot of other stylings thrown in at random.

it's not that they have the same sound, it's that they fulfill a similar role in their respective musical landscapes. ATR took heavy inspiration from the burgeoning cyberpunk movement and applied that to the relevant musical styles of that era. Death Grips update that overall aesthetic and their musical characteristics for the internet era.
