What music do people with real depression listen to? I'm not talk about your average pseudo-depressed Radiohead / Nirvana / Boards of Canada listeners, but rather people who are clinically depressed, who are enough harm to themselves to be admitted to a psychiatric ward.

When my depression really kicked in and took over my life, my taste in music completely changed. Mostly I got really stoned and listened to stuff like Hella.

I hate that he's much more better-looking than I'll ever be

I listened to The Birthday Party and early Bad Seeds
>>
When I was deep in it, I was all about Modest Mouse and Bright eyes, mostly Bright eyes.
>>
I listen to a lot of stuff. At my worst points, I probably listened to mostly shoegaze. A lot of it sounds so beautiful yet so sad and it just made me feel like dying would be so nice and peaceful. I wish I hadn't fed into the feelings that depression brings, but you have different perspective when you're in a depressive state
>>
doesnt listening to sad music make depressed people more depressed?
>>
>>65166255
I creates the illusion you're not alone.

I have clinical depression and have been hospitalized once.

I pretty much listen to all kinds of music but I tend to prefer the loud, dense and noisy kinds of music like Lightning Bolt, Wolf Eyes, MBV, Swans, stuff like that.
>>
>>65165548
I listened to Dead Letter Circus, mainly their first full length.
>>
nothing

when you're really depressed you don't even want to hear anything you just kind of lay there
>>
>>65166387
Pun pun was great
>>
>>65166412
And then you take drugs, and you want to do something but you can't come up with anything (because you have no life etc.), so you listen to music in order to experience anything else.
>>
>>65165548

I could just so easily fall in
It feels right
I stand closer
Cracks appear in walls
I can see the other side
It's waiting for you ,all that you wanted

When you go home
To the same room
You stare at the space on the wall
And you know that in your mind
It's not right
It's all a mistake, and you're fallin' away

Cause it is true
It defines you
The moment you break is the moment you change
It's all fine From the outside
Waiting for the day that you will know...

To me it's kinda like crying on the shoulder of someone who totally understands you because they've been through similar stuff and is just there for you unconditionally.
>>
>>65165548
Honestly? The same stuff. I was at a ward for 8 months and kept listening to my shit, and other guys were the same.
>>
Diamanda Galas, Nick Cave, Swans
>>
That's an interesting question for me because I've been clinically depressed for almost 7 years, at least since I was diagnosed and I can't even imagine what I would listen to if I wasn't depressed or if my taste would even change at all.
>>
This is some misguided shit OP. I was in a ward myself, harmed myself, I listened to whatever at the time, mainly lots of Sonic Youth, R.E.M., Eminem and Pink Floyd. Whatever I had access to really and was in line with my taste.

>>65166584
8 months is so fucking long man. I was in about 2 months and I was going out of my mind, god I fucking hated it.

These plus plenty depressive black metal
Surprised that nobody mentioned black metal before >>65166513 did.

Most of my patients don't care about music (or anything); once diagnosed and with good response to the treatment, they listen to whatever they want.

The answers you'll get here are pretty much what any normal /mu/tant would respond, not because they have clinical depression.
>>
>>65166787
Yep when I'm really low I dont have the energy or willpower to listen to music
>>
When I was depressed I listened to Black flag (especially My War), Rollins Band, and Nine Inch Nails.
>>
>>65166851
I feel exactly this way when I experience my episodes
>>
>>65166851
>>65166787
if you two are trying to insinuate that when you're experiencing really intense depression you can't/don't listen to music then i think you're wrong.
>>
>>65166977

Most of my patients =/= everybody.
>>
>>65167019
are you a psychologist/psychiatrist? my doctors fucked me up big time tbqh, so I don't trust them anymore
>>
>>65166977
Of course I *can* listen to music, but I don't enjoy it
>>
>>65167131
I went through 4 different psychologist till I found someone who I felt was good, my past ones either just told me things I already know or were straight up assholes.
My current one is very good and helpful though, she's also a qt.
>>
>>65167219
yeah some of my doctors were straight up awful people, lots of lies and insults. so horrible. I once self-harmed and my therapist said I was just being childish. what an asshole tbqh family. good luck in your journey.

LMAO. you didn't really want to kill yourself, you just wanted attention.
>>
>>65165548
I remember when I was depressed, I would try to listen to happy albums, but they would have the opposite effect on me. I would get sad because everything in the song was to happy and perfect, why couldn't I be. Albums like Since I Left You were bittersweet and made me cry without fail. I remember that I tried listening to the The Complete Hot Five And Hot Seven Recordings and being fucking destroyed afterwards.

Listening to more sad music didn't really have an effect on me. You think I would enjoy it more because it was more relatable, but all it ended up being was obnoxious. It would either remind me how shitty I felt, or I would end up subconsciously comparing myself to the lyrics and not actually paying attention to the song.

At the time I didn't really like anything specific, but I enjoyed music that had less of a mood to it lest I actually ended up relating it to my own mood and reminding myself, whatever. I was really into Math Rock and things like Hella and Yowie. I imagine I would have listened to a lot of metal if I enjoyed it and if I wasn't in a Math Rock binge.

I don't go fucking show off my depression like a trophy

>>
well if you have Real Depression™ like me, you probably listen to HANL, Giles Corey Xiu Xiu shit like that
>>
When I was at my worst back in 2014 (somehow didn't die from self-induced OD, spent a stint in a ward) I was really into Townes Van Zandt.

I still like him a lot. He's got the most bittersweet music.

multiple hospitalizations starting at age 10

I listen to
>(mostly black & death) metal
>western art music
>hardcore punk
>ambient
>breakcore
>some scattered other stuff

different types of depression and different moods within it merit different music.

Metal for the depressed
>Black Sabbath - Paranoid, Death - Human, Metallica - Master of Puppets (For Weariness)
>Xasthur - Subliminal Genocide, Weakling - Dead as Dreams (For Meltdowns)
>Superation - The Cube, Gorguts - Obscura, Jute Gyte - Vast Chains (For Dissociation and quasi-schzotypial thinking)
>Darkthrone - Transylvanian Hunger, Burzum - Hvis Lysett Tar Oss & Filosophem (For Insomnia)

Not him but how do you even fail to kill yourself. Respectable people die by accident daily, how can you not even do is perposfully.
