Can anyone name a better three-piece band? I don't think so.

It's bizarre how little impact they seem to have made.
Can you think of any other band that sounds like that? I don't think they fit in with new wave at all, too arty for alt rock, and way too pop for prog.

There are loads of three pieces better than them. You shouldn't have put that in there.
With that said, they're overlooked quite a bit here, and they knew how to make a good song. Stewart Copeland is a GOAT drummer, Andy Summers is an immensely underrated guitarist, and Sting knew how to write a good song.

the police were over 1979 with the overproduction and commercialism coming in swing with the 80s
