g-guys?
>>
>>65127509
Friendly reminder: the kiddies who post in /gg/ threads have nearly ***zero*** experience concerning guitar. Playing, repair, new player recommendations, etc. The average age in these threads is around early 20s: green as shit grass.

If you have an actual question this is probably one of the most uninformed & least knowledgeable places you could ever expect a proper answer to come from.

Be weary of any advice given here as it's amateur & perfunctory at best.

Have a nice day.

Like I said, there's no hope for Europe and thinking like this is why it's already over for you guys.
>>
>>65127570
I'm not OP, just concerned since there is no active /gg/ thread
anyway I wanted to ask if theres a way to reduce white noise in guitar rig other than the noise reduction component because as soon as I put some distortion I get earrape
>>
>>65127618
Are you using single coils?
>>
>>65127618
There are a million and one ways, for example, get your guitar grounded (if it isn't already), make sure you pedal power supply is isolated, make sure your amplifier is grounded, if you're using single coils switch to humbuckers etc. There are dozens of contributing factors to guitar hum
>>
Whats a good place to learn guitar, or book rather?
>>
>>65127635
yes, but when I use my amp (which is horrible btw) there is no white noise even with distortion
>>
>>65127640
I don't want to mess with my guitar because I'm poor and unexperienced, I'm looking for a way to fix it on my computer
>>
>>65127697
Bring it to your local GC and tell them you want to get it grounded. It's not even that expensive

>>65127509
Does she actually play?

Or does she just do the poser thing and just strum a few simple chords?
>>
>>65127725
Kind of a stupid question since it entirely depends on the amp itself. If a SS amp is fried, it's gonna cost you the price of the circuit board plus labor.
>>
Probs a stupid question but assuming i have an e.guitar, can i just plug it into a speaker and expect it to work? Why do i need a specific speaker sold at guitar shops for it? Do i require anything else inbetween the guitar and guitar speaker (amp?)
>>
>>65128019

No, the signal that comes out of your guitar is nowhere "strong" enough to power a speaker. It has to go through an amplifier first.

Why /gg/ thinks that handmade guitars imply higher quality than CNC cut guitars?
CNC machines are more accurate, consistent, and careful than human hands. Only difference is they cost less to use than to hire someone to do the job by hand.

Also why does /gg/ think a guitar is good if made by Americans, rather than Mexicans. The race has nothing to do with build quality. Has /gg/ just been so conditioned by the classic "made in US" marketing we see on so many guitar related products?

Why are guitarists so blind and stupid? Basically, is what i'm wondering.
>>
>>65127618
what soundcard do you use?
>>
>>65130204

If machines are so accurate then why do the same two Fender strats have so much difference, like some have obvious pocket gaps, and badly filed fret ends
>>
>>65129183
I'd look for a good used Marshall practice amp, they tend to sound pretty decent even in that price range. Do yourself a favor and avoid buying new gear if you can, it's a rip off.
>>
>>65129990
Orange makes hybrid, not full tube. They're quite decent, but lack controls and the 8" speaker is apparently shit.

>>65130204
Probably because there's more to guitars than just cutting the body right. My guitar's shit and I've never found the body inadequate.
>>
>>65130204
>Why /gg/ thinks that handmade guitars imply higher quality than CNC cut guitars?
>CNC machines are more accurate, consistent, and careful than human hands. Only difference is they cost less to use than to hire someone to do the job by hand.
I agree taht CNC is more accurate but there's still a final finishing and setup phase that needs to be done by hand as far as I know and that's where the quality variances might ocurr. Some of the detailing is quite labor intensive and that's where costs are cut for the cheaper lines.
>Also why does /gg/ think a guitar is good if made by Americans, rather than Mexicans. The race has nothing to do with build quality. Has /gg/ just been so conditioned by the classic "made in US" marketing we see on so many guitar related products?
Not everyone here is a Fenderfag senpai.
In my case I absolutely love Music Mans and they are made in the US. Last time I watched a factory tour, there were some obvious latinos but again, it's San Luis Obispo.
I also own a jap Ibanez and it's great, no bias on the location.
>Why are guitarists so blind and stupid?
Are you a bitter bassfag or just looking for a (You)? :^)
>>
>>65130306
Oh I know, but I'm referring solely to the cutting process there. My bad it wasn't clear.
But the rest of the process doesnt matter if the guitar is being built on by Mexicans or Americans, just how much they're being paid and what line they're working on and the standards they are told to follow for it.

>>65130333
I'm a guitarist too, but it's impossible to deny that the guitar market is perhaps one of the stupidest out there.

Pic related, this is what Gibson does with scratch and dent stuff at the factory. If something gets damaged they just throw it into the back of a semi trailer to be hauled off as garbage when it gets filled all the way up. Keep in mind that some of these guitars would be retailing for around $5000 at your local Guitar Center.

I'll say it again, electric guitars are just some cheap wood with some metal and plastic parts screwed on, nothing more.

You're missing quality control, weight, ergonomics, playabilty, realiability, global sound, versatility, and probably a few things more.
Sure, there are discrepencies between guitars in every price range, I keep hearing about Sandbergs being vastly superior to Fenders, but you can't just expect a 100$ guitar to be decent, that's not the price you'd have to pay for quality components even.

You can't even get Sandbergs in the US on a by and large basis, they have about 6 or 8 distributors, if you can find one. They also use Korean parts, for all we know they are on par with top Schecter Diamond models with the necks and bodies made in Korea and assembled in Germany. I got a feeling if they were so great, they would be showing up in New York and LA, but that just isn't happening.

>>
>>65133996
Yeah, they give you a "fuller" sound. The rerason why you play light strings is because of bending. There is no reason to string bend on a fretless since you can slide. This is why slide players and fretless players use heavy string, even in standard tuning or close to standard tuning

She's not a great guitarist, but she plays. She used to write her old songs and whatnot. But most country music uses the same basic chords, so.
>>
What are some great bands or albums to jam along to?
>>
>>65134224
slide players use heavy strings because you can apply more pressure without fretting out, which gives you less buzz and more sustain, not because of the tone.

I would have thought with fretless the reason was similarly to have more tension to reduce buzz.
>>
>>65134410
>the reason was similarly to have more tension to reduce buzz.
Isn't that what the purpose of flatwound strings ?

>>
>>65134021
How would you even fret the upper range on that thing?
>>
>>65134438
Uh, sort of. Flatwound strings make a bit less noise when they buzz(maybe) but they still buzz. People use them because they have less noise when fretting and sliding and such. Just playing a single note isn't necessarily going to have less fret buzz. I'm not sure how they behave on fretless basses at all though.

it's not exactly just moving from series to parallel, in that you're also removing a connection to ground. Basically, the cap in the bass control lets frequencies above a certain point go through, while frequencies below a certain point have to go through the pot, losing volume as a result.

For the sake of comparison, the treble control (standard tone knob) allows frequencies above a certain point to pass through the capacitor with very little impedance directly to ground, rather than traveling through your whole high-impedance signal chain. Turning the knob adjusts exactly how much impedance there is to ground for those frequencies.

(deleted my earlier post because I drew the schematic wrong)

Interestingly enough this didn't help me as much as I thought it did, but I still saved it for future reference.

So I tried the mods (different ones, in picture) and so far I got nothing that sounds like it affected anything (unless it was too subtle) as shown in the picture. Should the capacitor be on any of the actual connections on the volume control aside from the connection into the tone? Or am I making this way more complicated than it needs to be? Never been more confused (more with the outcome than with doing this) in my years of wiring stuff up.

I dunno. I never tried the dimebag one, i just read a bunch of reviews.. and the original was long ago. The wylde one is supposedly modeled after the hendrix one, with a wider range. The neat thing is you can tighten up the hinge to your liking. I read some zakk wylde interview before it was made, he said he uses the wah for a chorus boost. Puts a few nickels taped together under the heel so it stops at the spot he wants it to. I guess that's why the tighten thing. I don't even think he uses it, but when i used to get guitar world the section in the back where they had player's setups a lot of them used that wah.

Well, at the suggestion of some anons here, I went and bought a Sheraton for $450 at my local GC.

I really am in love with the thing, but there's a lot of fret buzz on the upper frets. And the neck is straight as far as I can tell. Would a heavier string gauge stop this? I don't want to return it.
>>
>>65141049
Looks lovely. However, I'd browse the Keisel catalogue more with that price range. Legators are whatever.
>>
>>65141102
haha, just raise the bridge. Use the high and low e strings to judge which side to lift and raise it until the buzz stops.
>>
>>65141102
By the way, you should try to find high/low frets now. Use a credit card. Line it up on its edge so it touches 3 frets and see if you can rock it. If it rocks on any of the frets return the guitar.
