When I first heard it in MGSV I wasn't even doubting that it's Bowie singing. This is a stellar cover by the way, an example of a perfect cover. It doesn't bastardize the original song but it doesn't wank it off either.

I think that they were similar because they were in the same band though. After Peter left Genesis they became less and less similar. Maybe it was because of vocal abuse on Peter's part but nowadays they are not that similar.
