The local music scene where I live mostly goes like this when I go to live shows down here.
Metal scene is a black shirt, jeans, maybe one or more tattoo.
Hippie dippy folk scene is free flow comfortable wear.
Indie art rock jazz major group is generally middle class jean shirt combos with thick rimmed glasses as far as the eyes can see.
Punk/folk punk/gypsy/rockabilly crowd is always decked out in punk rock attire. Skinny jeans, tattoos, crazy hair, leather with metal spikes etc.
Everyone has a uniform and fits into a stereotype of some kind. People are tribal and there is no shame in that.
