I want to get into Tom Waits but I don't know where to start. Do I just go through his discography in order?
I heard Ruby's Arms and thought it was amazing.
start with swordfishtrombones and go on from there
Listen to Rain Dogs and Bone Machine.
From the beginning, like you would any artist.
Depends.
Do you like his more bluesy stuff or his more experimental stuff?
If the former (judging by Ruby's Arms, that's the case), then start at the start and go through chronologically. His first couple of albums are great, then it gets a bit weak for a few albums, then picks up again.
Otherwise, start with Rain Dogs > Bone Machine > Swordfish Trombones > Heart Attack and Vine >Frank's Wild Years, then go from Black Rider to his most recent, then loop back to the start of his discog (Closing Time through to Blue Valentine).
He'll never release another album.

Why not? He released one in 2011 and it was very good.

He doesn't tour much anymore, he's getting old and we haven't hear so much of a peep about new material from him. The only other big gaps between albums, he was either busy touring or confirmed he was recording. This is just radio silence. He's done.

Start with Closing Time and Rain Dogs. It'll be a good introduction to his style.
My personal favorite album of his is The Heart Of Saturday Night though.

if you're looking for more like Ruby's Arms start with the earlier stuff: Closing Time, The Heart of Saturday Night, Small Change, Blue Valentine
Also some later stuff has great stuff in that direction: Mule Variations, Alice and the Bawlers-disc of Orphans.

This desu
Fair warning though, I've tried to listen to him before and failed but recently was surprised by some of his songs from these albums that popped up in my Pandora, such as "Black Wings" "Gun Slinger Girl" "Clap Hands" etc
I'd also reccomend the album "Real Gone"
I've also always really liked "I Hope I Don't Fall In Love With You" "God's Away On Business" "Hold On" and "Christmas Card From a Hooker in Minneapolis"
