Maiden have produced some Godlike albums but that isn't one. It has some good songs like Fear of the Dark of course, but overall it's too much filler.

Fear of the Dark is decent album for sure but it's quite clear the band was getting tired by that point. Some real hidden gems though, Judas by my Guide, Childhoods End, dare I say it even Chains of Misery is a lot of fun.

I think of Maiden's holy trinity as Powerslave, Somewhere In Time and Seventh Son. They'd definitely reached their songwriting peak on those albums, each one being a great balance of punchy singles and more epic tracks. I also like the way they all have their own feel, Powerslave is dripping in harmonies, like Thin Lizzy on steoids while SIT is futuristic and ethereal. Seventh Son has a really fresh, crisp vibe to it. Can't quite explain it but they've certainly never had better production than on that album IMHO.

there's just as much "class" in doom as any other metal genre. In fact, a lot of the more accessible doom that people here obsess over is arguably less classy just from the perspective that the songwriting is nowhere near as sophisticated as what other metal genres offer.

Playing doom drums with any kind of dynamics or creativity is a physical challenge to play, but makes the music way more interesting. It's very easy to make bad/generic doom, but really worth it when you can make it fun and interesting

I think Cisneros is a FAR more accomplished drummer than the dude from Bongripper. Ultimately I'm not sure how comparable they are, since Bongripper's more minimal approach doesn't include something like Pike's architecturally brilliant extended lead guitar, nor should it.
