What were the genres invented in the 2000-2010 decade?
How music changed in those years?
General discussion
>>
Dubstep
>>
Djent was born around those years isn't it?
>>
Brostep was invented, mainstream was heavily influenced by edm for a while, post 2014 people stopped giving a fuck about edm and everything returned to normal.

Apart from that everything has remained in status quo. There's so much music out there thanks to the internet that there is not one consistent musical act that has had a major effect, everyone sticks to their particular niche.

Well, The AnCo stuff was really influent on a bunch of things imho, and after 2006 every band started to sound like that

Indie rock was a major thing in the mid 2000 and everybody has no idea why

The Sonar landscapes or whatever (hecker, ben frost) are a product of that

of this period, not of indie rock

Indie in general has sort of exploded during the mid-late 00's, which lead to how alternative music is embraced by the mainstream culture nowdays.

Electronic music reached its peak. Electronic music in general.

The only genres that have improved during the 2000 - 2010 era is lo-fi indie, electronic music (in general), and experimental metal. Prove me wrong.

Are Xiu Xiu lo fi-Indie?

Pop isn't a dirty word anymore for musicians, producers are starting to push the mould of what can be achieved within a succinct 3 minute track with decent hooks and - most notably - depth. Beyonce's Lemonade is an example of these producers contributing to the evolution of pop - James Blake producing two tracks.

>Most of these guys are influenced in some form by left field hip hop producers: J Dilla, Nujabes, Pete Rock

>Mixed with influence from idiosyncratic performers such as Prince, Kate Bush, D'Angelo

examples of these are Caribou, Kaytranada, Jai & A.K Paul, Neon Indian, The Weeknd, Flying Lotus, James Blake.

There is always some wonkiness to the production - be it Jai Paul's abrasive side chaining or James Blake's gliding sawtooth - that takes the track into more unchartered grounds while keeping the pop context alive.

There's certainly huge influence from the 1980's - listen to Neon Indian's Annie.

It's a good time for pop
