This is a preety emo-ish album OP don't knock it till you try it
i would recommend Duster - Stratosphere
it has a p similar atmosphere to this album. memorable, beautiful guitar riffs. vocals are less strong though. definitely hits the emotions. also gets more abstract at some points (namely the title track)

That album has some heavy emo influences though. Check out Lonesome Crowded West, The Meadowlands, Drive Like Jehu, Fugazi, Jawbox, Mineral, The Van Pelt, Braids and Mock Orange. Also Brand New's The Devil And God takes a lot form Modest Mouse in some songs.

By the way emo is a particular sound and isn't just sad dudes singing.
More abstract, but they were a big influence on Modest Mouse. They came from the same scene a little before MM.

No, It comes from my own opinion.
I didn't say that the whole genre is full of bad bands, I just hate the classic bandcamp/bedroom band shitty music that, of somehow, is famous now. I like a lot of "emo" albums but it seems like you don't like to other people dislike your genre :^)
