I don't know what to think about that guitar, but I'm probably not cool enough to play it.
It looks like alienware made it or something

Meant for people who look like this.

Fucking djent fags
what is /gg/s opinion on artificial harmonics / pinch harmonics?
just stumbled upon this technique while trying to write a rock blues solo, coming down from a full step bend leading to a pull off / hammer on. the pinch harmonic was on the bend. I thought it sounded pretty good so I have spent the last 20 minutes getting it down.
i like it there but feel like it could be heavily overused.

Hey guys. Autism

is this fake? fretting at 2:17 and some of the fingerpicking a little after

>>64786953
no, he just changes positions mid phrase
>>64786658
>ibanezes are for stylish twinks now
Damn. Can fat neckbeards still use them?
>>64787299
They can, they just won't look as good using them. Maybe some other Iron Labels that aren't like that colourful.
As a stylish twink I can confirm Ibanez make aesthetically pleasing guitars for me.
>>64786899
That sucked ass. And properly intonate your guitar.
>>64786899
Holy shit, quit.
guys, stop fighting and post dream guitars.
>pic related
>>64786725
Good shit. Can add a lot of flavour to your playing.
>>64787682
not so much a dream guitar as I'm fine with what I have but I like this

Nigger what are you doing?

Objectively nice.

One day guys.
If /gg/ is the only reason you even post on /mu/ anymore, reply with the pedal you want the most and "aaayyyyy"
>>64787747
Is your name backwards like that guitar?
>>64786953
>>64787047
Yeah I would never consider that fake, changing positions is normal and the fingerpicking looks fine to me, strongly doubt it's fake.

left handed guitars make me uncomfortable

No, my trip is just "essence" written phonetically.

How's the DeVille? Any idea how it compares to the Hot Rod Deluxe?
>>64788156

so this arrived today :-)
>>64788183
>>64788258
It's so damn loud, lol. My first real amp and electric guitar anyways. I don't remember playing on a Hot Rod Deluxe in the past but I'd assume this DeVille holds its own very well enough. 2 channels and it came with a footswitch. The amp has a really nice warm tone to it. Definitely love this combo.

You guys I have a question, I'm going to sand the neck for the first time. What product should I use to seal it when I'm done? I see a lot of people, recommend Tru oil or shellac. Are these fine or is there a better alternative?
>>64789184
tru oil or tung oil

>>64787920
looks like Koyuki's. I love my Tele but I love that mine has a 6 saddle bridge!
>>64788146
is this bait? JMs are way heavier than Teles and of course Jags are lighter, they're much smaller guitars.
>>64789184
you only do that if you sand down to the bare wood. I leave a tiny satin layer of finish so no sealant required.
>>64787773
I want a pedal, I buy it
I post on /prod/ too sometimes
>>64788146
you know he's referring to specifically the rosewood tele which is way more heavy than a standard tele
>>64789424
>JMs are way heavier than Teles
depends on the model. the CPs are not heavy and i imagine some of the squier ones aren't either.
>>64789424
George's all rosewood Tele is heavy as shit, my dude.
>>64787682
I've no idea why, but I have a major hard on for a Tea burst explorer.

Nigger, basses are much heavier than guitars.

Can any recommend a good, cheap 1x12?
I'm looking at pic related which I can find for under $200 used.
I'm on a very tight budget and I really want a simple, bigger, louder amp than my current 1x8 practice amp.
Why is it so hard to find a band /gg/?

1. Its so light
2. Its so fucking heavy
Guess theres a lot of variation. I have mine in bits and every time I pick up the body off the shelf its on I'm amazed at how much it weighs.

Rhoads models are nice too
>>64790020
It was obviously relevant to the conversation, don't throw a shitfit.
>>64790087
I thought pine was supposed to be light.
The weight of my swamp ash Tele is about what I expected. I haven't weighed it but it's a lot lighter than my shit Jazzmaster was. Seems a tad heavier than the average Strat, though.
>>64787682
Pretty much any rhoads model also >>64790397
Can anyone explain "decking" a strat's trem? Do you literally just screw the claw screws in until the baseplate hits the body of the guitar?
>>64790446
pine is light
alder is the best weight though
>>64789965
if you dont mind the 2x12 size all those 80s peavey combos are loud and really rock solid like the renown/classic/heritage/chorus etc. easy to find one around the 200 mark
>>64790455
http://music.stackexchange.com/questions/17290/decking-a-stratocaster-bridge
>>64786545
So, apparently all types of "medium" bass strings are way too heavy for proper bending, any recommendations on strings/string sets that would work? Ideally not pure SS, I don't want them to be insanely zingy. Are the matched tension sets from Daddario worth it? I'm afraid that the B-string would get too floppy on normal light gauge sets.

I'm gonna brb, when I get back I wanna see some explorer, V, and SG love
>>64791244
No i wish, but i was in love with this guitar for several months so i have tried it for many hours in a shop, its great, im used to a superstrat and this is even more comfortable for me, the pickups are pretty warm, i tried it with some tube amps and the tone always remembers me the album blizzard of ozz with randy rhoads
>>64791172
hey that's the same Tele I have, same parts and all! I paid $400 if that helps you. This looks like a good trade to me although I'd rather keep the Tele.
>>64791244
>>64791340
Oh btw you should check if it really is korina wood, there are some similar models in epi but the price difference is pretty big
>>64791288
checked, the dubs gods have blessed you for your checkings my brother

this was supposed to be a guitar thread. Oh well.
>>64791288

Would I be better off getting a tube amp and pedals or an amp that has a lot of tones?

>>64791425
>>64791340
>>64791177
This is the one I'm trading for
https://reverb.com/item/2179878-epiphone-1958-korina-flying-v
Im a guitar pedal maker. AMA.
>>64791646
i guess it depends on
a) are you going to use all those tones?
b) do you already know what tone you want?
>>64791720
what is the best bang for your buck distortion pedal available right now?
>>64791720
is it really worth it expensive pedals? are they pure branding? what do you think of joyo pedals? Danelectro?
>>64791736
I vary between echo-ey reverbs, smooth bluesy tones, and heavy-metal tones. The amp I'm looking at works very well for that, but some anon in another thread told me tube amps with pedals are better, so I don't know.
>>64787871
Boris was using three of these when they came through last year. They're a pain in the ass to deal with touring. Sound amazing though.
>>64787944
Need to try the pedal. Only used the rack mount version.
>>64789310
SG objectively worst guitar
>>64791713
i dont know man, i dont buy used guitars often but that thing about the headstock... its kinda odd.
The price is way too up i believe, i was going to buy it for 5000 pesos, which is like 350 usd
>>64791790
What amp are you looking at?
>>64791163
w-why Anon? ;_;
>>64791832
Totally agree, i cant play on those and they are horrible
>>64791790
What amp were you looking at? you want kinda the same setup as me, i bought a 2x10 randall rg i just crank the gain when i want to play metal and when i feel like playing blues just get a tubescreamer in the clean channel, but its kinda cheap,it would be cool if you could afford a tube one
>>64791832
Neck-heavy as shit and the neck feels like it's going to snap off at any slight application of pressure.
>>64791891
Well I mean I'm trading a guiatr I bought for $500 and he's including the V and a Squier Affinty Tele whitch is like $120 on my end, also those Vs have been selling around $350-450 online so it's not too far of what he's asking, he's also putting in a hardshell for the V and the Squier has a upgraded MiM neck
>>64791756
forgot to say i specialize in fuzz and modulation. i know shit about distos, however, i think AMT pedals sound pretty sweet and they are sturdy.
>>64791760
>is it really worth it expensive pedals?
let the ears decide. i mean, its a very broad and rethorical question.
>are they pure branding?
same.
>what do you think of joyo pedals?
>Danelectro?
joyo can sound decent, danelectro too, but they suffer from quality control problems and cheap parts that cut their longevity.
why all the SG hate
>>64792116
because SG stands for "super gay" lmao
>>64791910
I was looking at this.
>>64792047
sounds like a good deal then lol, but idk try to check the serials with gibson
>>64792185
Yeah... i would go with the tube amp
>>64792071

Get the best of both worlds, a Fender Super Champ x2. Channel 1 is all tube and takes pedals well and Channel 2 is all the separate voicing a and models. It also has built in effects that are cool to try if you're planning to buy a certain pedal in the future like a tremolo, reverb, delay, phaser and chorus
>>64792422
sounds like a cool idea btw checked
>>64786763
holy shit he was my age when he wrote that riff? good video though. love his approach
>>64789310
legitimately revolting. you could have at least made the lighting better. goddamn black finishes are so horrible
>>64791172
The 51s are amazing guitars. My first ever guitar was a 2005 51 and I still use it to this day. They are solid fucking instruments for pretty much anything but jazz (I played mine in a death metal band for a year).
>>64792185
What the fuck. Go with the tubes man.
>>64792422
I can confirm this, the fuse thing it has is really fuckin nice.

>>64793992

I see pre-2012 firebirds going for 1400~ but the new ones go for less than that, did Gibson really fuck their shit up that much?
>>64793992
I appreciate you making an effort for this thread. Even though you're probably a metal head who thinks I have retarded gear.
>>64794658
JHS Angry Charlie V1, it's a Marshall overdrive. I saw that 8-bit Duck pedal but I prefer the Arcadiator for retro sounds
>>64794823
Do you think the trade would be worth it? I kinda wanted to have a nice Hollowbody to learn jazz voicings on especially with that 12" fretboard.
>>64795112
i mean if you have a tele tone and go to a squier with a humbucker bridge pickup you'll be extremely disappointed
I wouldn't do the trade but I main a tele. Sheraton is a great guitar and I don't know what your tele is worth
>>64787773
aaayyyyy
>>64795112
For the 8 bit duck and the arcadiator which do you think would work better for noise related stuff?
>>64794907
Tried somethign a little different, because I know a lot of you have owned other guitars previously, I'm curious as to where your taste started and where its ended up.
>>64795049
Personally, I think 2014 was a bad year for Gibson, they were focuse don making their guitars cheaper while not really improving anything, in 2015 they went innovation crazy for the 100th aniv' so zero frets, autotuners, zamak hardware etc (personally I liked them but whatever) 2016 was a toned down version of 2015, where they added the option to have all their modifications (pro) or not (traditional).
As for the firebird, never played one myself so I can't really comment on that model specifically.

>>64795218
If you're doing non-chip tune playing then you should go for the duck, but if you want harsh noise then geta cheap Danelectro French Toast fuzz. Those are wild when everything is dialed fully
>>64795178
I have a Squier Affinty Tele that does its job well, my current is the sonic blue one worth around $450.
>>64795233

>>64795311
Only the bare necessities. At least it has coil splitting.

Updated version
>>64795232
That's a stock photo. mine is actually Dakota Red, not candy apple red which is the more common one. It's flat instead of sparkly, more of a blood red.
>>64795112
I already replied but money-wise it's a good trade. Personally I feel like either is a downgrade from the Tele. I'd save up to buy a hollowbody if that's what you want instead of trading out of boredom and losing your Tele. Gear regret is real.
How do you guys feel about G&L Teles.?
>>64795404
I'm a big fan but I don't own any. There's a dealer in my city and I tested a lot of Bluesboys. I think if you were trying to find an alternative to Fender for whatever reason you can get a better price for an ASAT over an American Standard Tele.
>>64795372
I never understrood why you have two of "essentially" the same guitar, mate...
Like I know I'm one to talk
>>64794907
but the two vintage LP style guitars are voiced completely differently.

My o0ld man bought a G&L telecaster, had some gorgouse body contours and the flame finish was stunning. The neck was quite a bit to hold in the hand, fender c shape, the intonation was perfect and it was a rock monster (he had one with humbuckers... yeah I know I know)
>>64795404
Most people say they're on par with American Fender quality. I think they're awkward looking and they don't feel like Fenders to me but they're good guitars. I'd never buy one.
>>64795390
My Tele is a partscaster but my Squier is a Squier Tele with a fender MiM neck on it, I kinda just wanna trade the Tele so I can sell the Epi Sheraton and Squier 51' and hopefully I can sell them both for over $500 total
>>64795541
I know you said your Tele has a Mighty Mite neck and Fender pickups but what's the body? If it's Fender or an MIA licensed (Mighty Mite/Warmoth) you could make over $400 from it, probably $500 if you're lucky. Teles are going for way too much these days.

Just the way it ended up. I prefer playing the Gibson even though the Epiphone plays great and Would argue that the Epi is the cooler guitar of the two.

The Boss tuner is just nice no matter what.
MXR makes good shit, the flanger is all proper electronics. if it comes to mass produced chinese electronics assembled in china for $100 vs boutique chinese electronics assembled in USA for $500. I'll take the $100 option

Really though they're sturdier than just about anything else. I would feel comfortable touring with a boss pedal, while some of my boutique pedals feel like they would fall apart easily.

>>64786545
So, I did the whole string tension calculator thing, the closest I can get to even tension on my 35'' scale bass is 040 055 075 100 135, that set obviously doesn't exist and not even the balanced tension set (+ a 135 for the low B) would work perfectly. So, where exactly can I buy these exact strings in europe? Thomann doesn't have all of their gauges as single strings and my music store down the street sure as hell doesn't have all the gauges I need either.
>>64798959
Found a shop, looks sketchy but I'll try it out. Also, that'll be a 40€ string set (with shipping included) for my 5-string just so I can have balanced tension....

>>64787773
aaayyyyy
I just bought this bass. It's awesome and like 20 years old. I'm not sure about the model, but the manufacturer is Fernandes.
I'm just kinda irritated due to the overdrive of the pickups. No matter how quietly I play, the pickups give it an annoying growl. Is there any vway to decrease the volume that pickups receive?
>>64800935
Why spend so much effort in getting a balanced set? Are the benefits that important to you? They always felt like a meme to me.
>>64801276
On some actives, you can adjust the gain boost on the onboard preamp. It's pretty rare though. Otherwise you can always lower the pickup height and see if it does change anything.
>>64801282
Easy and consistent bends, also there is no set of bass strings on the market with a good bending G-string that also has a tight low B. It also just seems stupid that the D-string is somehow way higher tension than all other strings. I might opt for the middle route and get a balanced tension 40-95 Daddario set and buy a 135 B-string to go with it, that's less of a hassle and the only 2 strings that are "wrong" would be a slightly loose E and A string.
>>64801276
Change the pot value maybe ? That way you have more control over the volume knob.
>>64801729
Have you thought about Kallium strings ? They make pretty much every size of string possible and you can order string by string if you ever want to do alternate tunings.
>>64801276
>Is there any vway to decrease the volume that pickups receive?
That's not how a pre-amp works. The pickups generate the signal, the signal gets amplified and EQed by the active electronics. Nothing is sending anything to the pickups. Are you sure the overdrive/growl is happening inside the bass and not in your amp side? Lower volume with the volume pot? Reduce gain? If that doesn't help then it could be the case that the pre-amp gets overdriven by the normal output of the pickups, which would be weird but possible I suppose.
>>64801784
Daddario also makes all the strings separately, it's just a pain to order them because barely any store carries ALL of them, but I found one. Also, the only calculator I can find is based on Daddario strings because they have to their formula and all the specs out there. I also happen to like Daddario nickel strings honestly.
Recommend me a good amp /gg/!
Something fairly small wattage <50w preferably tube, but im ok with solidstate.
Should have a nice clean channel and take pedals well.

What exactly is the problem with ergs again? Basses have added a lower string a long time ago and nobody bats an eye at that. Is it because guitars don't fit their role anymore at the lower registers?
>>64802291
Oh boy. Ye i like my doom as slow and relaxing background music.
And i can name like one Radiohead song.
>>64802404
Retards that go chugga chugga on them. That's the only problem extended range instruments have.
I mean half of a 4 stringed bass's register's in the range of a regular guitar, complaining ergs go into a bass's range because of 5/10 notes is retarded.
>>64802327
>Plays covers to sell gear
>Based
?
>>64802468
To be fair though, you barely go past the 12th fret on bass for MANY bass lines, the upper register is there but it gets ignored most of the time.
So the problem with ERGs is a stereotypical way of using them, not the instrument itself.
>>64802550
That depends on the composition, not the instrument, I can name plenty of songs where you don't go past the 12th fret on guitar either.
But most of the hate against extended range instruments is based on opinion and not facts.
The only real problem is getting the electronics right and ergonomy once you start adding more than two strings, but like 5 string basses, 7 strings are completely fine to play, I've tried 6 string basses too and the only real problem I had was the lack of a major third like on guitar.
>>64802661
>the only real problem I had was the lack of a major third like on guitar.
You're not really supposed to play a 6-string bass like a big guitar though. Ergonomics do get tricky, 5-string is not an issue but once you hit 6+ string territory you probably need 2 trussrods on a bass neck and it gets really awkward/stupid to play. I've tried a few 6 and 7 string basses out of curiosity, but I'll definitely stick to 5 strings.
>>64802729
I know, but I'm a guitar player, if I have at least six strings I expect the thing to have a major third at one point so I can quickly play a minor arpeggio without thinking too much about it.
But as far as the neck went, I didn't find it too wide for me, I keep my thumb on the back of the neck at all time and I can stretch my fingers far, which would be why it felt comfortable enough.
>>64801276
I'm this dude
There is a simple explanation to why my pickups were like that. They were really quiet because the battery was dying, so I had to put the volume on really high so it became distorted. I'm an idiot. Thanks for the help everyone.
