Happiness is a distraction from true intuition
Don't know exactly why but depression makes you creative sense really active. Had it happen to me and for some reason ideas just come easier.

Because it depresses the brain's tendency to be entertained by superficial social behaviour. You're no longer preoccupied with smiles or laughs around, and your brain has more room to consider itself, incl. melodies or things to communicate. Depression, in a sense, makes you more autistic.

i make less music when depressed. (as in, i make no music because depression makes it impossible for me to even leave to go for therapy)
