Where were you when the best synthwave/darkwave album of 2016 was released?
https://soundcloud.com/perturbator/sets/perturbator-the-uncanny-valley
well its certainly better than carpenters new one I'll give you that
>>64715311
Did something new come out after Trilogy?
>>64715299
in my basement, masturbating to old Shirow pin-ups, obviously.
>>64715333
quality trips
trilogy? Is that including the remix? then no I was referring to the sequel from last month
>>64715405
Trilogy is his first 3 EPs in one release.
>>64715456
oh haha no JOHN Carpenter the film director
he makes synthwave albums now
>>64715299
I can't get over how underwhelming that artwork is compared to the music inside.
>>64715485
Whoa I need to check that out.
>>64715485
Oh! I've only listened to his first album, which was pretty fucking amazing and a notch above everything else in synthwave.
>>64715490
I like the composition but the technique is literal shit
composition = boobs
>>64715299
Anybody have a link to an album download?
>>64715528
I bought it on Google play but:
http://sounddrain.com/
>>64715513
Yeah cause let's face it the composition is as basic as it gets.
>>64715528
it's on BC at NYOP, lad
>>64715504
the remix album is fucking sick if you havent heard it
the new one left me a little underwhelmed but I've only heard it once or twice
Is anyone else hearing this in the first track???
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZhN8ApGRcI
>>64715555
>>64715561
Thanks, dudes
>>64715603
Well he is insiperd by movies and videogames. Diabolus Ex Machina literally sounds like an overdriven track from Deus Ex: Human Revolution.
>>64715311
Lost themes was great
>>64715624
Also he included some Front 242 synths in death squad and I'd like to think I had a part in that since I asked him if he was gonna take inspiration from EBM
>>64715603
yeah but the intro made me think more of Kaneda's theme with the taiko drums and shit.
How does this make you feel?
>>64715929
>>64715929
Completely indifferent.
>>64715299
Still listening to Death Dream.
>>64715929
I'm like "eh".
>>64715311
I kind of disagree but I need more listens.
>>64716008
>I'm like "eh".
Are we in the golden age of Synthwave bros?
>>64715485
>now
he's been making this sort of music for 40 years.
>>64716130
that depends entirely on the rest of the world, Perturbator and Carpenter Brut can't shoulder all of the genre by themselves.
>>64716132
yes but not as albums for their own sake.
>>64716145
What about Kavinsky?
>>64716163
This deuce is irrelevant. His only (dubious) artistic contribution was putting raps on one of his songs.
>>64716130
The Uncanny Valley will be the last Perturbator album. He quit:
https://www.reddit.com/r/outrun/comments/4ij45o/the_uncanny_valley_will_be_the_last_perturbator/
>>64716172
I'm ok with that. He ended on a very high note that will hopefully inspire people. And he's got other musical projects that are also interesting and deserve more attention from him.
This is \ much better synthwave album to be released this year imo, Uncanny Valley has its moments but I found myself getting bored halfway through
>>64716505
Good thing we've still got them.
>>64716505
I found some of their songs really good, but I got bored of them after a few listens. But I definitely like how they lean more towards rock.
>>64716130
Definitely
>>64716145
There are so many other artists working in the genre right now worth paying attention to.
>>64716172
>He quit
Shit man
>>64716191
Definitely.
Also I kind of feel that the genre is getting a bit saturated with a lot of wannabee shit. It started to get overly popular now. Darker sounding releases like this keep it out of the mainstream though, at least for some time.
>>64716643
>>64716645
hopefully it'll create a power vacuum effect that will lead to more good stuff being put out.
>>64715299
>2016's rehash of 2012's rehash of 1980 synth
>death grips/ James Blake / vektor /radiohead
>pick one
>>64715299
eh maybe, it's not better than his goat Dangerous Days though
>>64716130
>the last Lazerhawk was 3 years ago
We need a new one
>>64716725
I'll take 2016's rehash of 2011's rehash of Killing Technology.
>Open up in soundcloud
>soundwave looks like this
No thanks
>>64717378
Well most of these songs are quite "noisy" so yeah...
can anyone explain to me the difference between Vaporwave and Synthwave?
>>64718719
vaporwave is slowed-down elevator music
synthwave is catchy music played on old synths
>>64716172
what the fuck
>>64718800
He probably made the mistake of reading the youtube comments of his music.
>>64718827
Synthwave is dead tho
>>64718955
you wish
>>64718765
so they're nothing alike actually. Thanks
>>64715311
when you listen to Carpenter's album you realize how shit Perturbator can be. I wish he focused more on the mixing, some of his stuff can be so shit to listen to, like Sentient for example, compare that one to, I don't know, even the first track from Lost Themes II and you can see how Perturbator can improve
>>64716505
if there was someone that had the mixing ability of DWTD with the creative side of perturbator, that shit would be GOAT. DWTD can get boring really quick
>>64716172
you know he's right though, the problem with all of these guys is that they put out too much similar shit
>>64719946
definitely, it's hard to innovate in this genre
>>64720173
The problem i think, is that they don't dig deep enough into their respective concept.
Synthwave is the result of a big mish-mash of influences from movie and game soundtracks to legit ambient albums and synthpop/synth rock, plus some new wave and italo disco. And the aesthetics are just "all things 80s"
So there's in fact a SHITLOAD of potential for creativity and a lot of influences to explore deeper than they already did, all they have to do is specialize and focus on certain topics and concepts that inspire them the most.
>>64715299
If I like com truise will I like this?
>>64720290
Probably not.
Tom Cruise is to Perturbator what Pink Floyd is to Anthrax.
>>64715299
Please don't call that darkwave, darkwave is shit like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZsZIK1uUP0 or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1q7s5fdgbng
