Fleet Foxes produced pretty much the only current indie star that doesn't fall into nu male territory.
Also Helplessness Blues is by far the best thing to come from the genre so idk what you're on about.

Actually you probably wont but its whatever. Fleet Foxes are one of the few indie folk bands that have a very easily traceable lineage back to the 60's folk revival and even plenty of traditional folk material beyond. Their frontman Robin Pecknold knows his shit, and if you knew absolutely anything about what you're talking about you'd recognize that they're pretty far from being shallow trend hoppers. But whatever, keep on believing that you're so much smarter than everyone, I'm sure that really fulfills you.

There is literally nothing special about them. Absolutely nothing. they literally just make generic folkpop with Beach Boys harmonies. they have done nothing to prove they are knowledge in music either. Even fucking Marcus Mumford has more knowledge than them in my eyes for that coen Bros flick.

Their harmonies are much more reminiscent of people like Crosby Stills & Nash or Luke Kelly but nice try. It's always funny to see people immediately relate vocal harmonies to The Beach Boys, as if they haven't been a valid tool in music composition in decades. And yeah, Robin has spoken a lot about his fondness of people like Bert Jansch, John Fahey, Robbie Basho, Roy Harper. As for the traditional stuff obviously they're familiar with the Anthology and Smithsonian Folkways Collection and I know Robin has an interest in other world musicians like Emahoy Tsegué-Maryam Guèbrou.
And yeah Marcus Mumford does actually know his shit, but if you can't tell the difference between how he utilizes his influences in Mumford and Sons and how Fleet Foxes use theirs then you're beyond saving.

I never even claimed that any of those are that obscure. All I'm saying is that the whole idea that Fleet Foxes are somehow insincere in what they're doing is founded on practically nothing other than a misguided sense of elitism.
