Hip-hop has evolved and changed so much from It's humble roots with herc and the graffiti/breakdance craze. It's made by listeners for the listeners and is a dynamic genre.

well I don't think that's a judgement call you can make. I would argue that lyricism is not necessary for dance music, and a majority of hip hop is lyrical.
