i'm looking to get a new amplifier and buy new. i just want to make an investment in a more expensive amp, and i'm leaning towards a 65 reissue deluxe reverb or something comparable for a similar price. thoughts?

>>
>>64589055
I really liked how this pedal sounds like too, i'm thinking about getting one but im not 100% sure yet.

Another delay pedal i was considering was the Empress Tape Delay, which has a much longer max-delay time and has a nice self-oscillation, , but the modulation is not as good as the modulation of the Belle Epoch, which is why i lean more towards the Belle at the moment.

The Disaster Transport has a really nice sound too, but the max delay time is even shorter than the belle....
>>
>>64589244
I'm also curious to hear how this delay sounds like... i know the joystick thing is a gimmick, but i think it might be a fun gimmick...

I have a DRRI

It sounds awesome with guitar straight to amp, but its surprisingly picky about effects. Some sound great, some sound really tinny and harsh through it, which wasn't the case with the small Pro Jr. I had where everything sounded great through it.

Are you looking to buy used or new?

If you get a used DRRI for around 750, its a great deal and a great amp for that money. I dunno if I'd spend 1100 on a new one though....i'd probably look into other stuff if I was gonna drop 1000-1200.

and yeah strats and teles are goat. my strat on the neck pickup sounds actually pretty great for jazz. what's awesome is that we're doing this funk song now, and it's actually perfect. if i had a semi-hollowbody it might actually be too warm sounding

Btw the only amp i have is a cheap solid-state amp, i will maybe get a new amp at some point.

But,
I think i should just get another solid-state amp because not only that tube-amps are more expensive, i mostly play clean and from what i heard both tube amps and solid-state amp are similar in clean, with solid-state actually being cleaner because you might get some distortion at the higher volumes when using a tube-amp.

Also i have an amazing reverb pedal so i dont need amp reverb.... and if i will want to have a really amazing distortion i could just get a good overdrive pedal which will be much cheaper than a tube amp.

thoughts?

Plenty of cheap tube amps out there desu senpai. You aren't wrong about solid state being cleaner but there are few solid state amps out there designed to not make you want to sell it and get a tube amp because marketing.

What is your budget
>>
>>64589404
i know this has been said a bunch, but honestly having played for 10 years on an amp that size and having finally upgraded, there is probably no bigger element to your sound than the amp you use.

i'd even recommend selling a guitar to buy a better amp desu. and with ebay and craigslist now you can find them pretty cheap if you're constantly looking

I have only one pedal so far, which is the Red Panda Context Reverb. i spent many many days of research on different reverbs and the context was my favorite one.

I recommend you to check out this youtube channels and have your own pedal research - >>64588582

Also, some reverbs i would recommend to you to at least see:
-Supernatural Ambient Reverb by Digitech (HardWire series)

-Catalinbread Talisman

- Alot of people like the strymon Bluesky and Bigsky reverbs, so check that out too

- Alot of people also like the Eventide Space reverb.

- Empress Effects is coming up with a big reverb pedal soon, so there is that too.

tube is to humbucker as solid state is to single coil

I got a used twin reverb in excellent condition for around 7 to 800 and it takes pedals amazingly well, especially after replacing the original tubes. Before dirt pedals especially sounded like shit, but now it handles any fuzz/dist/od I throw at it.
OP said he wants to buy new though. Personally I'd save my money, buy used, and spend the savings on pedals or a new guitar.

They're alright. Good amount of padding and the case is rather stiff so I think it can take a few knocks, but since it isn't a hard case I would be careful. Definitely better than a normal gig bag.

Here are the other basses: Schecter C4, defretted Peavey Grind that I bought for 60 bucks, Kingston shortscale thing that currently needs new pickups and electronics, and a Korean made Tune TWX-41.

I really need to update my pictures. Apologies for the jpeg-ness.

Wasn't it a JC-120? What do you expect?

JC-120s are fantastic but every tube amp isn't a JCM800. There are some crap tube amps too.

A better example would be how VHT/Fryette 2/50/2 and 2/90/2 have been replaced my GT800FX and GT1000FX but a huge portion of their userbase.
>>
>>64590061
i mean no ones denying that solid states can sound gorgeous. plenty of jazz musicians have used them for their cleans

my question was more directly towards the pros and cons of them. which are better for pedals? which are more versatile? are tube amps worth the investment (with the replacement of tubes every so often)?

>>64590734 (You)
Oh wait my amp is actually a bit different.

>>
>>64590120
Well, to avoid triggering people too much I'll just list some advantages. Disadvantages are going to vary, since obviously amp makers are going to put effort into diminishing or eliminating those disadvantages:

Tube amps:
Built in distortion. The distortion works by overdriving the tube. This is pretty much THE distortion tone. It's usable in a wide variety of music, especially because of it's "smooth" even harmonic sound. It lets you distort without standing out too much.

Compression. Tube amps generally have some degree of compression. This can make your guitar's volume knob more useful and impacts the tone. It's good for leads.

Solid state amps
Transparency. Solid state amps by default have a more natural CLEAN sound to them, due to lack of compression, and less complex circuitry needed to eliminate noise.

Reliability. In general, a transistor is sturdier than a tube. Obviously this depends hugely on the amp but there's far more "built like a tank" solid state amps than tube amps.

I'll throw one con out there: Solid state amps do not distort without a separate clipping or distortion circuit in them. Well, some early ones do but modern solid state amps have distortion circuits instead of overloading the transistors. So getting a tube sound out of them is much more difficult.
>>
>>64589404
How are these 70s reissue Strats? I personally want a mocha 70s strat but i've read that they're complete shit in about every way which is surprising considering a decent amount of people play 70s strats
>>
>>64589563
There are cool solid state amps. They're fewer inbetween. Old Sivertones, Acoustic brand, Sunns. Distortion can be unconventional. I feel like most solid state distortion is more aggressive. Some is good for metal, some pairs well with fuzz, some would fit right in for harsh noise.

If you're wanting sparkling clean over a drummer, you're going to need wattage with a tube amp.

>overdrive cheaper than a tube amp
Yes, but distortion from a tube amp sounds better. Also a good amp and pedal working together and both coloring your sound is the intended use of an overdrive.
>>
>>64589880
fret saws are a bitch

You have a router right? They are infinitely easier. Plus I have no idea how you're going to route those cavities by hand. I even have a 1/16" bit that I can carve out small inlays with the router.
>>
Long story short: solid state distortion = pedal distortion

I apologize in advance because I'm retarded
>>
>>64591145
I wouldn't say that at all, there's a lot of great distortion and overdrive pedals out there that when paired together sound amazing.

Most solid state amps just have shitty distortion circuits built into them, JC-120's included. But if you run a big muff and a tube screamer or something you can get pretty great tones, not the same as tube amp distortion/overdrive but I still think it's a desirable sound.

All I have is a dremel, i'm going trace this shape and cut it out again, then cut the neck pocket out of one of them before glueing them together, I will have to dremel the space for the bridge down a bit, but the gk3 pickup and electronics I have is all external luckily

I haven't played very many different types of strats so im not too seasoned in knowing what sucks and what doesn't. Things I've noticed is the neck is a bit wider and the action is lower than most strats i've touched even at max bridge height. I get some fret buzz from playing too hard or im not positioned correctly but Personally I still like it. It's probably the guitar I reach for the most out of the three.

A fuse is just a bare wire that burns up at current. You could take some wire and see if you can turn on a calculator or whatever with the fuse in series with the batteries.
>>
more dumb questions

is there a difference between a 50 cent fuse and a $12 one? Where is a good place to buy one for cheap?

The fuse itself says T500L 250V. What does the first part mean? Do I have to get one that matches exactly?

Judging by your post you will probably hate it. Floyds are for the type of player that doesn't mind constant guitar maintenance.

Put it this way, you basically need to do a complete setup every time you change string gauge or tunings.

Huh, thanks for the insight, I couldn't imagine them actually being as terrible as people on forums had said, and if Fender reissued them they have to be seen desirable by a decent amount of people.

On a side note, anyone know what years/models of Strats were made with stock brown finishes? It seems to only be some 70s Strats and then the very early Highway One's. I haven't found any others. I'd be upgrading pickups and hardware anyways so I'm really only buying one for the body and neck.

Heavy-ish alternative (think smashing pumpkins) and blooz rock. Naturally I also play weeaboo songs on it.

Single pickup / phase in pickup combo sounds like a Stratocaster with a fat tone. The bridge pickup in particular sounds amazing on overdrive

Phase out sounds like the guitar in "Houses of the Holy". I primarily use this setting for clean rhythm parts.

lots of good cleans from solid state and tube amps. what works for you might depend on exactly what you're looking for out of a clean.. (some people like crystal clear cleans and others like a little bit of breakup)

while i agree with most of what >>64590951 says, i think high wattage with a solid state can get you good headroom over a drummer too.

but for distortion with a solid state amp i'd probably go for a distortion pedal or maybe even fuzz, overdrives seem to be more about pushing the tube amps to distort further.

check out the amps that the aforementioned anon posted, also check out the roland jazz chorus amps, also nice.

my amp is all tube, and only cost me 250.. has a decent clean, but wouldn't suggest it for that. just saying the prices can really range, just go out and play a bunch, find what sounds good to you.

It really depends on the amplifier. You don't want to go 10/0/10 but there are amplifiers with obscene mid range at noon.

It's not uncommon to see Mark IVs and Vs with the mids on 1 or 2 and a V on the EQ. They still don't sound scooped.

Pretty much anything except the real modern stuff from Peavey is built like tanks. We had a pair of 1200 watt amps but having backup preamps and what not was finnicky. Made more sense to keep extra heads around and 5150s are passable for most things.

You get education in music and art at school, people who are into music additionally go to music school or a music academy (or a school that focuses on that, Sängerknaben, etc.) and have regular concerts there. I don't see the point of a talent show in a normal school, most kids don't have any actual talents or things worth showing.

>What is /gg/ practicing?
Scales, all the scales.
Timing and developing independent, internal time.
Sight reading.
Getting more fluent overall.
Etc.

Please wear them anyway, you will thank yourself later.

What does everyone think about buying second hand guitars? If you have the money, is it better to buy a guitar new? Or does the age of a guitar not make much of a difference
>>
>>64597525
I think you need a hair band or something to deaden the strings behind your taps.

Both of the highschools I went to in the Netherlands had an annual talent show.

Plug in and try again
>>
>>64597669
anything american made is usually fine to buy second hand unless it's something that has excessive fretware

I like guitars to have a little history especially if they are something like a les paul that isn't chambered

it's also good for networking, I've met plenty of other bands buying pedals and guitars from other dudes and thrown them/gotten thrown on a bill

So, i haven't got any answer yet...

Do people ignore new amp builders and focus only on vintage ones? i mean, i'm sure alot of good amps were made after the 90's, you know...

The new Egnater stuff is pretty good

What does /gg/ think of jared dines/Rob scallon/fluff etc
>>
>>64598262
>jared dines
shit tones, terrible sense of melody, not bad at drums, cringey videos
>rob scallon
shit tones, way too much tap-wank, too many strings, some of his stuff is pretty good while some is shit
>fluff
pretty good at mixing, songwriting is kind of generic and boring. He's good to watch if you care about gear you'll never buy

I'm interested in how I can use it to create atmospheric backgrounds/soundscapes.

Jared can't even djent right even if he jokes about it a lot, it always ends up sounding like August Burns Red or Killswitch with more chugs. Also his "If x was metal" videos are effortless, it's just vocal melodies transposed to lead guitar.

The other two are pretty skilled at what they're doing though.
>>
>>64598445
Depends on what you like
Just google "*song* chords"
>>
>>64598548
It's pretty straight forward really. Reverb or delay goes a LONG way on eBows. I don't use any reverb, just delay.

A lot of people will recommend turning your guitars volume down, but I wouldn't. Leave it maxed out and turn the input gain though instead.

Also if you hold it directly over the neck pole pieces (or there abouts) you won't get that swelling feeling. It'll come on instantly. I do it that way then shape with a volume pedal or envelope filter. Swelling with the ebow itself is kind of unpredictable.

Worth remembering I tune to B and A standard, which adds a ton of low end to my recordings.

So.. I could get a Carvin Bolt for 1600 SGD, or a MIJ Tele for 1000..

Which one should I get /gg/? Mainly looking to play slow jazzy stuff, and a bit of prog rock. I like the 7.25" radius on the Tele, but the Vintage frets is holding me back..

Post the most basic yet functional chain you could gig with

Mine is:
MXR dynacomp->Boss FV500->preamp->amp or mixer with a zoom ms70cdr on s/r

Usually if I'm playing directly in, I'll put a passive 10$ DI between the chain and the mixer.
Preamp depends on what I'm playing (guitar\bass) and if I want some kind of drive. That zoom is a heaven send, truly. I sold so many redundant pedals after buying that, I could pay a month of rent
>>
>>64599762

Guitar --> audio interface --> REAPER --> S-Gear
>>
>>64599786

How does it compare to Bias FX? I'm thinking of buying one of these amp VST's
>>
>>64599822

More organic, the cleans are more dynamic to playing nuances. Bias is better for high gain though. It has that modern, tight sound that S-Gear lacks.

But the best amp sim for high gain IMO is Recabinet.
>>
>Buy a guitar
>Buy an amp
>Buy some pedals
Release I need to get way better to justify having this stuff before people who can play well see I'm the all the gear and no idea kid.
Not the best situation.
>>
>>64599762
guitar -> Boss NS-2 -> high gain amp -> cab

It's pretty much all I need to gig with anyway. The only pedals I have that I don't absolutely need to get through a set are a Tubescreamer and a DD7. I've played a few sets without them when my signal was fucking up in soundcheck, and the only way I could fix it was to simplify the pedal setup

Are American Standard Strats really worth 2.5 - 3x more than Mex? What are you paying for?
>>
anyone ever played a Marshall Valvestate S80 8240?

I see one for sale at $70, seems like a good deal even if I must change the lamp and spray some contact bomb
>>
>>64600256
No. They're made of the same body, the same neck, in the exact same way. One of them just has shitty import electronics and the other one has good electronics. Get a MIM, change the bridge and pop in a new wiring harness and pickups and you've spent less for the same quality.
>>
>>64600302
Gotcha, but what's wrong with Mex bridges?
>>
>>64600296
At that price it seems as though it would be a good deal even if the amp was completely fucked, I mean even if just the speakers work: you get a cab frame and two speakers for dirt cheap.
>>
>band is good enough to gig
>cba to do demo and its been a year if stagnating doing nothing and just writing more songs
kill me
i want to gig
