Collectively, yeah. But no, alone those genres cannot possibly be as varied because as soon as they get creative, they are pigeon-holed into another genre or sub-genre. As much as I love electronic music, its fans elitism means that the best way of avoiding arguments is to just call something ground-breaking by a new genre.

I'm not sure.
Metal has a good dozen main subgenres, and those each divide into other subgenres.
All in all there's about two hundred subgenres of Metal (including those that are only played by two or three bands) so I don't think that techno, house and breakbeat can compete.
