For your knowledge I've been browsing forums where most of bands posted here would be considered too mainstream for several years, and about less than half year ago I re-discovered Priest (well, when I was 13 years they already were my fave band, but I had no opportunity to hear their early stuff), and on my memory it's the only albums I can spin infinite amount of time, as well as enjoy listening even bootlegs from their era. It's extremely rare when a band can deliver that good live, and extremely rare when a band has more than one extremely talented musicians (I mean Tipton & Halford)

Fuck man, my favorite metal bands generally consist of Mercyful Fate, Whiplash, Voivod, Fates Warning and X Japan, all of which are very popular bands and then a few underground stuff, but I have a massive collection of metal ranging from some of the most cheesy power metal to gritty funeral doom to fast tech thrash, a lot of black, speed, OSDM, crust, black thrash and so on. Just because your favourite albums are some of the universally recognized albums doesn't mean you're an entry-level shitter.

See if someone can borrow you an army for a game and try playing it. It's not for everyone and desu Warhammer isn't even a very good game (purely as games miniature games are generally pretty unbalanced, you got to enjoy painting the minis etc to enjoy the hobby).

yeah. You don't have to read the rules, though. The earliest editions of Warhammer and 40k had the background and rules written in separate books but right now you can find all that shit in pdf if you dig a little.
The first two editions of Warhammer were basically slightly edgier DnD lore, but starting from the 3rd edition, which was compatible with the first edition of 40k, it got HEAVILY inspired by 2000AD comics (stuff like Judge Dredd, Nemesis the Warlock and Slaine) which were written by metalheads and punk kids, and loaded with references to occult fanzines, so all that shit transpired into the art and story of Warhammer and 40k. But again, it's all about the A E S T H E T I C S, the lore itself is very inconsistent. It's still fun as fuck.
Also, around the late 90s, GW published its own comic book magazine called Warhammer Monthly and it's right in line with 2000AD stuff. In fact, in the 90s, GW hired a lot of illustrators that also made comics for 2000AD and their design studio was made mostly of rivetheads and thrashers.
