No it isn't.

It's MCing. It has it's roots in Jamaican toasting, and MCs spitting over garage, jungle and eventually grime beats in order to get a crowd hyped. Grime has NEVER been informed by hip-hop in any direct or meaningful sense.
>>
>>64524931
Okay cool but they're still rapping aren't they.

A rapper will refer to himself as an MC occasionally.

They're doing the same thing. It's rapping.
>>
>>64525036
The process is the same, but the intent and outcome is completely different, and the two exist in entirely separate contexts. Sorry but no dice.
>>
>>64525036
>>64525064
Just to expand, they're only similar in that it's people vocalising over beats. You could argue that folk and metal music was one and the same because they use guitars.

this is toasting, it was never called rapping
you might even be able to hear the difference, i dunno

grime came from this
>>
>>64525112
Fucking hell that's ruffneck. Tune.
>>
>>64525088
Well they're both playing guitars aren't they.

Like yes, rapping and "MCing" are done with different accents over different sounding instrumentals but all in all it's the same process. A rapper can MC and in theory an MC can rap (then again most can't because most are terrible).
>>
>>64525180
yeah it used to fucking destroy clubs
>>
any buff gyaldem in this thread? move my way yeah
>>
its "wagwan" you fucking white male
>>
>>64525228
I think you totally missed the point. Yes, they're both playing guitars... Consider a folk guitarist and a punk guitarist. The former is fingerpicking and playing chords, while the latter is shredding riffs and random notes. Both use the guitar in entirely different artistic contexts, just like how American rappers and British MCs are spitting in different ways and in different contexts.

>A rapper can MC and in theory an MC can rap
By this logic a skilled fingerpicking guitarist could play in Germs and vice-versa. They're using their voices in very different ways and to very different ends. Neither is better or worse than the other when they're so divorced. What grime have you listened to? Boy In Da Corner and Skepta's new singles don't count. It sounds like you need to understand it better.

>>64525228
grime is punk mate. i wouldn't expect pavarotti to start shelling bars and similarly expect, i dunno, dominick fernow to serenade me

toasting came before rapping, it arrived in the uk before rapping was even a thing

rapping came from toasting as well, and toasting was a thing in jamaica and the uk before rapping was a thing in the usa

if you want to be historically accurate, grime MCing and american rapping are two branches of toasting that diverged before either of them even had a name

Precisely. It's not grime anymore. Just like pop-punk isn't punk.

I just find it hilarious how Chris Brown has suddenly discovered this whole culture.

Like it seems he genuinely enjoys it but he doesn't quite understand it.

Wagwan, mi name ah Breezy-bwoy.

I'm a 26 year old American roadman (Grime fan for you yanks). I produce Grime and Garage on my tablet, and spend my days perfectly my choons and listening to superior British music. (Section Boyz, Section Boyz, Section Boyz)

I get cheeky nandos wit the lads every day, this cheeky chicken can cut clean through your bowels cos it is spiced over a thousand times, and is vastly superior to any other food when you're out on the piss with your brevs. I got a Nando's card two years ago and It's been earning chillies every day.

I spake London slang fluently, both cockney and jafaican dialect, and I spit fluently as well. I know everything about Aylesbury Estate history and their rude boy code, which I follow 100%

When I get my British visa, I am moving to South London to attend a prestigious council estate to learn more about their magnificent culture. I hope I can become a producer for Craig David or a trapper!

I own several Stone Island jackets, which I wear around my ends. I want to get used to wearing them before I move to Croydon, so I can fit in easier. I say safe to my bluds and brares and speak patois as often as I can, but mandems rarely manage to respond.

Wish me luck in LDN!

fuckin rap n grime are the same
britfags rap different so they called it sumn else
literally the exact same art in different styles
being a rapper I would know
it's more like mona lisa painted 3 times than three renaissance painters
>>
>>64526795
It's the production that's different.
>>
>>64526802
yeah boom boom clap is heard differently depending on location
>>
>>64526795
except influences and styles are completely different
>>
>>64526802
Actually it's more down to history and culture. UK Hip-Hop is Britain's answer to American Hip-Hop. Whereas Grime is a more authentically British genre. It took a very similar growth as Hip Hop did but they are different, or were.
The new wave is definitely taking influence from American Hip-Hop, which I think is where the confusion comes in. Most people outside the UK only know post 2014 Grime which is basically just a mix of Grime and Trap.
>>
>>64526795

Yeah like >>64526958 said, the culture is different

Grime is more based on sets, freestyles and stuff. They reuse beats and flows and lyrics alot on different songs. It is more important to be able to freestyle, spit new flows and make new beats.

In Hip Hop it is more about story telling and lyricism or making a hype track with heavy beats.
