The cartoony, almost childish sounding lyrics and sound is kind of a shtick with alot of neo-psych bands. I get enamored with that type of sound (just look at my name) but I could see what you mean. If you are looking for a more serious sound you should check out Embryonic, The Terror, and 7 Skies if you haven't already. If you are dissatisfied with the substance of flips albums, Clouds Taste Metallic (my personal favorite), shows the band at their creative peak and has a more stripped-down sound.
