Is there even such a thing as music that is both fun and intelligent and doesn't compromise either/use cheap gimmicks in how it does it?

Pet sounds and smile
I think there's a lot of variation in what people would consider gimmick.

In the video above, for example, it's quite easy to see their theme choice as either gimmicky or consistent with culture regarding mass surveillance in the 21st century.
(Also, knower are fun electro pop. Not sure about intelligent, but I rate them.)

Fun as in you know, fun. Stuff that could be "jammed" to at a party as they say. And intellectual is kind of self explanatory, though it still is a fedora term.

If it's "intelligent" in terms of composition, no one in the mainstream will get it because like anything, art (music) is about improving from the past and today's mainstream is completely attention deficit and don't give a fuck about the past. In terms of lyricism, possibly.
Kendrick Lamar is probably the closest thing. He's made cohesive albums about important topics and he's intelligent in how he thinks about things and puts into a song and it still comes out as a banger, appealing to almost everyone in the mainstream, even if they are missing his message.
