At the end of the day I find that when it all comes down to it, we actually do wind up talking about music and all of our shit tier opinions.
I like it here, but I hate when people get off topic to bitch about "sjws" or how [insert black musician] is racist. Clogs up the boards with stupid thread that aren't even about music.
It also bugs me when someone makes a hip hop thread and there are a bunch of responses like "hip hop is trash". That's the kind of attitude I had towards other genres when I was 14. Like, idgaf if you like it, other people clearly want to discuss it lol.
It kind of depends. If you don't know how to navigate it or the culture it's probably one of the worst, but once you learn which threads to post in and browse it becomes really helpful. Certainly better than any other music discussion site I've found.

Once you've been on any 4chan board for long enough you begin to ignore most of the obvious crap threads that will routinely pop up and you can find some pretty good stuff lurking round.

This is the only music forum I go to, so I don't really know. Other ones I've looked at usually sucked in comparison, and only discussed surface-level artists. I found some good neofolk in an RPGCodex thread though.

Just avoid those and participate in or create threads about artists you are interested in.
General threads with discussions by fans of a genre are generally pretty good too, but I never look in the electronic or emo threads.
cringe threads are also amazing resources the first couple times you scan em. the fact they pop up multiple times a day means there are too many repeats - but my favorite moments on my have been watching some of those fckin videos.
