According to this site /mu/ is one of the best forums for music discussion. What do you think about it, /mu/? Personally, I think the quality of the threads is fluctuating from shit to good.

>Do you browse any other forums?
>What's the best music forum on the internets?
>Why is /mu/ so overrated when half the threads are about: wifus, grimes, hip hop, "band has two bassists", kpop & off-topics?

At the end of the day I find that when it all comes down to it, we actually do wind up talking about music and all of our shit tier opinions.
>>
I like it here, but I hate when people get off topic to bitch about "sjws" or how [insert black musician] is racist. Clogs up the boards with stupid thread that aren't even about music.

It also bugs me when someone makes a hip hop thread and there are a bunch of responses like "hip hop is trash". That's the kind of attitude I had towards other genres when I was 14. Like, idgaf if you like it, other people clearly want to discuss it lol.
>>
It kind of depends. If you don't know how to navigate it or the culture it's probably one of the worst, but once you learn which threads to post in and browse it becomes really helpful. Certainly better than any other music discussion site I've found.

Once you've been on any 4chan board for long enough you begin to ignore most of the obvious crap threads that will routinely pop up and you can find some pretty good stuff lurking round.

There will always be shit threads on any forum, and things will always fluctuate. /mu/ is pretty good.
>>
>>64404444
>/mu/ is pretty good.
tbqh it is, indeed
I'm curious about the fact that /mu/ is on the "creative" section, so I guess it's meant for musicians, mostly, but the only threads dedicated to share personal productions are soundcloud, bandcamp and /gg/.

In my honest opinion I think /mu/tants should give a chance to the those"ultra-underground" musicians and stop glorifying crap like grimes & chvrches & shit related
>>
>>64404599
The fact that they are contained to those threads is good though. It means less people have to deal with unwanted spam and everyone knows where to go if they want to find underground music or have their songs rated.

There's more of an interest in discussing music that's popular than listening through tons of crap to maybe find a hidden gem on this board and I think that's okay.
>>
>>64404430
>happens in every genre thread

Yeah, and it's annoying there too

im a newfag, didnt even know mu existed until 4 months ago. This isn't a place I go to hear new shit (although I have! lightning bolt is tight), or to engage in 'intellectual discussion'. speaking intellectually about music is fucking hard to do, I'm sure you guys have noticed.

i keep coming back because its got the adolescent, contentious energy of /pol/ but siphoned into lovely, innocuous music debates. debates not so much ABOUT music, but AROUND music. everyone is so concerned about what it means to like a piece of art, how it positions them in whatever construct mu has built around itself. these 'values' are reinforced by memes, barbs, insults etc. its very interesting!

i love seeing people get worked up over stupid shit like fanboy chum chum anco smearing and what-have-you. its a endearing, fucked up little community of children. nothing wrong with that. makes me laugh.
>>
'community of children' was too harsh. but their are definitely younglings posting grimes and mac demarco threads all the fcking time.

/mu/ is garbage
Most of you have shit tier taste and nigger music reigns supreme here along with hipster indie garbage
I will say 2006 share threads were dope af
>>
>Do you browse any other forums?
Not for music.

>What's the best music forum on the internets?
This is the only music forum I go to, so I don't really know. Other ones I've looked at usually sucked in comparison, and only discussed surface-level artists. I found some good neofolk in an RPGCodex thread though.

>Why is /mu/ so overrated when half the threads are about: wifus, grimes, hip hop, "band has two bassists", kpop & off-topics?
Just avoid those and participate in or create threads about artists you are interested in.
General threads with discussions by fans of a genre are generally pretty good too, but I never look in the electronic or emo threads.
>>
cringe threads are also amazing resources the first couple times you scan em. the fact they pop up multiple times a day means there are too many repeats - but my favorite moments on my have been watching some of those fckin videos.
>>
>>64405451
kek, i mostly lurk /bleep/ cuz is the most "normie" containment thread tbqh, but i often lurk around when i'm high af and have a good laugh about all the autistic shit /mu/ complains about.
>>
>>64405578
>Most of you have shit tier taste and nigger music reigns supreme here along with hipster indie garbage
It was definitely much worse 5 years ago though. Back at the height of Odd Future and back when everyone jacked off Anco, Arcade Fire, and the Antlers and shit constantly. I feel like most of /mu/ has matured and listens to more interesting stuff outside of their comfort zone now.
>>
>>64405630
my favorite baiters are theoryfags: ppl that claim intellectual superiority because apparently know scales, modulation etc. they demand that you 'explain in theoretical terminology' why said pop song is good. and if you can't you somehow lose the argument. such fucking assholes but i love when they pop in.

4chan is pure web 2.0
Basically Web 1.0 (Static web): Meant you could only read, nothing else to do.
Web 2.0: Brings interaction and users can post their own content such as comments or images in a community (4chan is pure 2.0)
Web 3.0 (social web, semantic web): Is what you are talking about I guess where the web is centered around the social experience of one user, it is personalized to that user, see facebook, instagram

It's not that /mu/ is good, it's that everywhere else is shit. RYM is the only other one I go to.
>>
>>64403711
/mu/ has been horrible since 2013, 2012 was a transition year of terribleness. The excess of Sharethreads, Modern Hip Hop and Poptimism made this place into any casual discussion board, I don't even come here to find new music to listen to I only use it to see what's the "in thing" so I can haphazardly select a few pop artists to play for a podcast. This place is no longer part of what 4chan was, it's some abomination of tumblr, 9gag and reddit that has the remnants of Kusaba UI.

I wouldn't even mind of all this if you idiots actually listened to "obscure" or under-appreciated artists but you all perpetually listen to the same few artists again and again with some added avant-teenisms thrown in from the RYM crowd, then you claim to be "in the know", it's quite funny. The fact most of you care what the cancerous e-"reviewers" think (like the vlogger Fatano) cements the hilarity even more.
