Is hard rock more influenced by blues while the metal is more influenced by classical?

Metal is probably more influenced by classical, but that doesnt mean theres much classical influence in either.

I can't really conclude on anything other than that metal has a darker media image and subject matter.

Metal has lower tunings and more distortion.

Hard rock is just a harder rock. Metal is harder than any rock.

Lower tunings, harsher vocals/more frequent use of harsh vocals, more distortion.
Metal is just heavier. Extreme metal like BM and DM are more clearly definable as metal (tremelo picking, blastbeating, screeching/growling, general atmosphere), but things like metalcore could be mixed up with hard rock.
Master of Reality is stoner rock. Where people draw the line between stoner rock and stoner metal is sort of up in the air but stoner metal generally has riffing that's clearly heavier and harsher vocals than you'd see in rock (see Beastwars, Sleep, Conan for example).

p sure prog rock is more influenced by classical
>>
Hard rock is blues based harmonically, in terms of phrasing, and the histrionics it requires from the singer. More overtly about sex and love and stuff. Danceable.

Metal can warp pentatonic riffing (a la Kyuss or Sabbath) but consciously distances itself from blues tropes. Also fantasy and escapism is more blatant in metal. Moshable.

no, i think it's a fairly linear progression from blues to hard rock to metal. there are probably more metal bands influenced by classical, but only because metal has expanded into something much bigger and because most hard rock with classical influence was labelled prog.

classical influence is certainly not the distinction between hard rock and metal.
