Today is Krysztof Komeda's birthday.

Rosemary's Baby and Cul de Sac. Other than those and Astigmatic, no. Not like he released a lot while he was alive but I feel I should go through some compilations of his music.
For any fans of Krzysztof, I recommend pic related as well as Komeda by Leszek Możdżer.

Yeah I listened to most of it this weekend. It's pretty good stuff. I didn't realize there would be so much duet stuff with Gomez though.
It reminds me a lot of pic related which is one of my favorites. I may even end up liking DeJohnette's drumming better than Philly Joe's.

i have a question
i'm a bit new to jazz, and i was wondering if this album is free jazz
wikipedia says it is but they aren't the best at genre labeling.
it sounds way too coherent to fit in to what i have been told qualifies as free jazz.
but genrefagging aside, it's really one of my favourite jazz albums, and any recs that sound similar to the self titled track would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah it's free jazz, but compared to some other pure free jazz records it's definitely on the more coherent side. It's mostly the saxophone that's doing the "free" bit while the other instruments lay a solid foundation (which still sounds incredibly lively and spontaneous).

I don't think so. For me, it sounds much more as post-bop 'avant-garde' record. As for rec, listen to pic related
There are free elements in The All Seeing Eye but it really is a stretch to call it free jazz.
If you like it you should check out other Wayne Shorter stuff from that era, including solo stuff and with Miles Davis.

There are some other good Blue Note albums you should check out. I see you already know Out to Lunch but you should also listen to Iron Man.
