You CAN dance to it. You can dance to anything with constant rhythm. But prog was made to be rock, but with less youth oriented themes and rhythmic tendencies, it is basically the rejection of rock dance music. Keep in mind, we are talking about first incarnations of these genres, so with that, metal in its first incarnation was slow and muddy, and its purpose was to be loud and hard, not as dance music. And psychedelic can be danced to, but its not dance music, its purpose is to be exactly as described, "psychedelic"

Church music (plainsong) wasn't, though. That merged with high end dance music to form classical in the early 19th century - moving from ballrooms and churches to municipal halls for middle class people who can't handle being monks and can't handle being hedonists.
