How do I into challenging music? Pic related isn't that even challenging but where do I go from this point to just-fuck-my-ears-up level shit
Faust - S/t maybe
it still baffles me but it is probably one of the most impressive releases in recent music
>>64346670
no shit that's a pop album what were you expecting?
>>64346709
it's more challenging than 90% of music 2bfair
If I played it for my friends their ears would bleed
>>64346729
yeah I can see where your coming from I can barely get my friends to sit though Tame Impala singles
>>64346795
bleps I swear are everywhere
>>64346795
Tame Impala is better than Radiohead imo
>>64346875
eh can't say that since they haven't released anything as influential or defining as Kid A or OKC but they're better than mainstream hiphop
>>64346875
le
Currents AOTDecade 2bfair
>>64346670
Death Grips' next album apparently.
>>64346795
>tame impala is challenging
but i get it, normie friends are still friends.
"oh muh gerd, u like weird muzik? listen to twentyonepilots, theyre like tha best!"
>>64346914
>they haven't released anything as influential or defining as Kid A or OKC

I said challenging not unlistenable
>Listen to Sonic Youth
>Then Big Black, Dinosaur Jr., and Mission of Burma until the noisiness doesn't bug you
>At that point, listen to Les Rallizes Denudes and some of Keiji Haino's stuff until THAT noisiness doesn't bother you
At that point, Power Electronics and Harsh Noise and the like shouldn't bug you.
>>64346945
>we can tell what modern music will be influential right now
not unless we get a stream of shitty pych-poprock revivalists in the next few years.
Doopee time
>>64347000
>a stream of shitty pych-poprock revivalists in the next few years.
i hope so, i would like a woodstock 2
>>64346945
Stop baiting I love Tame Impala but Kevin hasn't influenced SHIT yet
And Lonerism isn't even on par with this
>>64347021
actually, i wouldnt mind a woodstock 2 either, now that i think about it. it just wouldnt be as original of a scene.
>>64346943
>>64346795
ITT bitter teenagers that think they're better than everyone for confirming to a subculture like drones over a mainstream culture
>>64346670
Challenging is subjective. There is no definitive "challenging" album, when someone tells you something is supposed to be challenging it stops bring so. oxymoron etc.
>>64347068
stop projecting you fucking tool
>>64346998
>legit answer
You're a gem
>>64347081
Itt triggered teenagers
>>64347125
>triggered
ok whatever you say

>>64347176
Why Wont They Talk to Me is this generations Tomorrow Never Knows, pleb, its drone and electronic. raidiohead peaked already, they are done with, they are dinosaurs now
>>64347218
I'm at least waiting for LP9 until that delceraiton
I will say that Tame Impala is better than the Beatles ever was
>>64346958
Nothing is unlistenable. If you are wanting to get into "challenging music" you need to learn to not be so dismissive of things that are different. That's what your normie friends do, you just have your overton window of weirdness slightly further over than they do.

What has happened to this board
>>64347411
We've developed taste
>>64347371
No ones falling for the "DG is gud guyz! I swear I'm not from reddit!" meme
>>64347411
post one Beatles album that compares to Currents or Lonerism
I'll wait
>>64347437
>we've developed tastes
>still listens exclusively to pop culture fluff
>>64347496
>implying pop culture doesn't take the best of experimental genres and make it accessible
I can go all day
>>64347437
I didn't say anything about good. You called it unlistenable, which is not only pretty ignorant considering it isn't out yet but is stupid in that the whole point of your thread was to try and and start listening to challenging music.
If you don't actually want to listen to challenging music and instead want slightly edgier versions of the same alt rock and psych rock you already listen to then I can't help you.
>>64347496
>developed taste
>/mu/ is still a massive indie cred circlejerk
>>64346670
Squarepusher's Go Plastic is pretty challenging for Jungle music, just skip to the third track. The first two are pretty easy.
>>64347484
Revolver, Sgt Pepper, Abbey Road, The Beatles, Magic Mystery Tour. All these album pushed way more boundaries than Tame Impala ever will and it's obvious they had a huge influence on Kevin. You will disregard my post because we all know you're trolling.
Desperate Straights by Slapp Happy for challenging music that isn't just OMG NOIIIIISEE
>>64347562
I'm not sure why but I think Tame Impala fans are some of the most deluded idiots on this board, excluding most of the metalheads.
>>64347437
Hey, man. If you want to understand all types of genres and difficult to listen to music. Then you should just understand where they come from first instead of directly hitting conclusions.
The next step for your pleb ass is to listen to Pink Floyd since you love Radiohead so fucking much. I love em too, but this is just stupid.
Or just throw in Velvet Underground, Neu!, King Crimson, Faust, Ben Frost, or Tim Hecker.
And get the fuck out.
>>64347676
Or even better listen to Merzbow, Ramleh, Whitehouse, and John Cage 4'33".
Since you want to be such a special snowflake.
Try this.
Or maybe Magenta Circuit.
>>64347619
There's a fair bit of low-effort bait ITT but some actually think lame impala is the next Beatles. It's cute, they are like little babby :)
Listen to Sonic Youth's Goodbye 20th Century, and SYR 3 Invito Al Cielo. The former is quite challenging. It's a bunch of covers of modern classical/avant garde compositions, but with guitars and Jim O' Rourke. First listen seems like an hour and a half of rhythmless droning noise. It's great.
>>64346670
Listen to Tago Mago, it's a pleasant listen at first but will make you feel like you've gone insane by the end. Also a huge influence on Radiohead. Obviously not trying to say it's the most challenging album out there, but it's a good place to start because it will at least reel you in with soagreeable songs like Paperhouse and Halleluhwah.
>>64347820
How are they not the next Beatles? both low tier psych pop
>>64347537
You're right. At this point I'm just here for the memes. /mu/ is either stuck at pitchfork peak in 2009 or posting shitty radio pop
>>64347523
That's still not a developed taste
>>64346670
Hey
>>64346670
The way I got into Kid A was to become suicidally depressed as a teenager, and listen to it on repeat until 4am one night when trying not to kill myself, at which point it just kind of clicked and I've never found any music inaccessible since.
