I need some albums with some god-tier guitar solos.
King Crimson - Red
Oh Jim
anything dinosaur Jr
it's all good, except bug, fuck bug
Most Zappa.
sign 'o' the times boi
The first song on this album, Dancing With The Moonlit Knight has a dank guitar solo

how can you not like bug? it's their second best anon..
>Guitar Solos: The Album
The Asphalt World is pretty killer

Christgau so concise, so pithy. His reviews are for kids that ate classic starburst one at a time over a period of days as opposed to Fantano kids who like clogging their esophagus eating the entire pack on the bus ride home.
>>64324670
Sheik Yerbouti (Rat Tomago)
Anything by Mahavishnu orchestra
>>64329472
Are trying to say Christgau is better? He's somehow more vague than Fantano and shits all over some of the greatest albums of all time in the process
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cXS6dFCSpYA
The guitar solo on this track is insane.
This song has some insane guitar too.

This. How the fuck people remember Page but not Zappa
>>64324944
dinosaur jr are pretty much guitar solo: the band
>>64329565
You dont understand christgau. The point of a music critic is to say something interesting and/or funny about the piece of music, not to determine the place of the piece of music in the canon - that's for retrospectives or reissues only.
Almost anything Jeff Beck has released
>>64329709
His consumer reviews are atrocious, saying something funny about the album is fine, even if he trashes it, but he doesn't usually say anything even remotely understandable. How is it a consumer review if he doesn't even clue his reader on what he heard??? Not only that be he somehow doesn't understand certain aesthetics and dismissed albums in the process. he rarely changes his thoughts on an album in retrospect anyway...
>>64327368
Based Steve Hackett
OP check out his album Spectral Mornings, most songs on it have excellent solos and the opener is one long solo like Maggot Brain
>>64330184
If you don't think he's saying anything remotely understandable I suggest you read more.
>>64330184
The dumbest shit I've ever seen is that piece he wrote about the Eagles where he lists all of these positive qualities and then says in the last sentence that he hates them
Anything buckethead really, but i've really been enjoying this.
animals as leaders. nuff said
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZ2WrN93vno
>>64330131
gross, this album is shit, i wished i had listened to it before i bought it on vinyl
>>64329709
>>64330238
He's a good writer but he has some of the worst taste imaginable. Fuck anyone who thinks that Soulja Boy's debut is an A- and Art Angels is a straight A.
>>64330284
What? Why do you think that?
better than anything in this thread or posted after me.
>>64330238
A consumer review is supposed to clue a reader in on what the album is, what its got. He doesn't do that at all. If you read reviews of album that you don't know beforehand
>>64330295
Yeah i disagree with a lot of his taste. But I dont read music reviews to read to seek out critical validation (or if im gonna be less douchey about it, to seek out new music), I read them because I like to read about something I enjoy
>>64330320
because its terrible, and it shows its age
>>64330486
Hmm. I don't agree.
>>64330495
ill listen to it again sometime, but to me it was awful
>>64329698
Its perfect music for /my rippin nasty distorted guitar solos and a guy whining about getting friendzoned
>>64329622
People are stupid man.
Zappa is the patricians patrician
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=OJo_f95lMPo
This album has tons of sweet solos. Duane allman and Clapton high as fuck on heroin sad about Harrison's waifu
Whipping post
>>64324973
god this
>>64329316
>a ham hock in your cornflakes
wtf is he even talking about. i hate him more than scaruffi
>>64330770
It's a joke about stuff you see when you're high (note that in the previous sentence, he suggests that George Clinton was a huge acidhead).
>>64330684
i thought it was soulless
>>64329709
I do notice that as he got older, he got lazier and just started slapping a bomb or a scissors on an album he didn't like without bothering to explain why, while in the 70s he used to at least write a sentence or two.
>>64324670
DSotM - the guitar solo on Time
Van Halen I
Steven Wilson - Hand Cannot Erase - Guthrie Govan's solo on Regret #9 is fan fucking tastic
Maggot Brain is probably the most 70s-sounding guitar piece ever.
Baroness - Blue Record
Mastodon - Crack the Skye
Prince - Purple Rain
Tedeschi Trucks Band - Revelator
>>64327368
the solo in firth of fifth is one of my all time favorites.
>>64332527
>Prince - Purple Rain
Thank you, I'll enjoy listening to it after I download the album off a Russian website filled with viruses.
HOW YA DOIN' DOWN THERE, PRINCE? HOT ENOUGH FOR YA?

slsk man

fuccck yeah

I suppose everything always depends on what a person likes, but as someone who loved Blow By Blow, Wired, and There And Back I think in retrospect those records clearly changed the next quarter-century of guitar, and progressive, music.
Anything by Jeff Beck is worth hearing.
When Eddie Hazel (guitar on Maggot Brain, among other landmark recordings) died, Ween dedicated a song (Tear for Eddie) to him on their next album. IMO Gener's solo is the best sendoff he ever received.
