I mean, yeah, I haven't deeply analyzed the lyrics or anything but it just seems like the same kind of whiny garbage that Sufjan Stevens is and I understand why that's popular. It's the same reason everyone listened to the shins in high school, they thought it was "life changing" but I just find it all so... I don't know... banal is maybe the word I'm looking for.

It deals with the same universal theme of missing someone/wanting to be with someone but you really think NMH is just basic rehashed tfwnogf stuff? In the lyrics his obsession with Anne Frank is much more complex than he wanted to date her or something (would be nasty af anyway she was a kid)
Plus there are so many ways NMH differentiated themselves, most obviously the turn-of-the-century lyrics/artwork and odd choices of instrumentation

Only three records. Their second one is very forgettable imo, but their debut and their latest record are amazing. Just the first two tracks off their debut are enough to get you hooked on them, and all of Multi-Love (their latest) is great. Love their music, discovered them during a tough time and they really make me feeeeeeeel gooooooooood
