>>
Why would you include Skrewdriver and White Pride with bands like Crass, The (British) Subhumans, and The Angelic Upstarts? Those bands cancel each other out politically.
>>
>>64261081
This. It's more annoying that most of these albums are "classics" from the 80s/90s everyone and their dog has listened to and nobody ever talks about current punk or at least punk from the post-2000s. If anyone tries to bring it up everyone just goes ">le implying post200s is good and punk isn't dead lmao". Don't even know why I come here for music recs anymore, these threads are usually awful and full of edgy teenagers.
>>
>>64261663
>Why would you include Skrewdriver and White Pride with bands like Crass, The (British) Subhumans, and The Angelic Upstarts? Those bands cancel each other out politically.

Because I'm not beholden to pure ideology like most people are, and for that matter, neither is Penny Rimbaud:
http://www.cvltnation.com/the-heavy-mental-interview-with-penny-rimbaud/

I can enjoy skinhead Oi! of all stripes and not give a toss whatever their politics are.

Another note: White Pride was a joke band that got taken seriously. The only song that was from the heart was "Bitchy Women" which was aimed at the lead singer's sister who was a radical feminist at the time.

Because, for the most part, Punk subculture has produced a negligible amount of interesting releases in the past 20 years. Scene policing, dogmatic attitudes and just everything else that comes with the subculture has ruined the chance for anyone to produce anything worth hearing.

Besides, even when we do list things with little to no context, extremely few posters bother to add any personality (be it in their own nominations, opinions on albums), so it isn't fair to levy all the blame on the listers.

Also, All Skrewed Up, Skrewdrivers first album is straight up Oi! not RAC. That came later and was pretty much a marketing decision on Stewart's part.

I like the Onkelz Metal albums a little more "Kneippenterroristen" and "Es ist soweit", but they're cool, too.

"All Skrewed Up" sucks. "Hail the New Dawn" isn't much better. "Blood and Honour" is when Skrewdriver started honing their chops and becoming a better band.

Personally, "Boots and Braces" beats everything since it compiles their best singles and EPs. "Back with a Bang / I Don't Like You" is untouchable.
>>
>>64261940
I hate to tell you but that's bullshit and you know it. Punk isn't as popular as because it isn't as unique anymore. There are still plenty of great bands within the scenes who take different approaches different from what the punk elitists and scene policers wants. Bands and artists like Bomb The Music Industry!, PUP, Andrew Jackson Jihad, and Pat the Bunny all come to mind and that's barely scratching the surface.

Have you heard O.H.L.? They were on Rock O Rama before that label went full on NS, and basically proceeded to piss off both the left and the right wing punks by writing songs critical about both

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zGpGBGmza7U

>>64262131
I think Millennials that would have been punk in the 80s or 90s listen to deathcore or metal or ignant gangsta rap now. The ones who do listen to punk do so for its hipster cachet not because of any anger or identification with it, so they bastardize the fuck out of it
>>
>>64262266
i hate being associated with the bastardization, it makes me feel anti punk or anti "ponx"

How are you 'associated' with it? Don't worry, your anon you can admit to playing ukele and auto harp in a crass cover band and no here can punch you

But if your only association is being in the same age bracket - thats something that has defined punk since the beginning - shame and anger at the bullshit their contemporaries were doing

Is this better than their other full length? I loved that one but never got around to hearing this.

Why?

Green Day isn't very different from Bad Religion or NOFX or any of those other SoCal melodic punk bands.

I don't like any of them, but hey they are a legitimate sub genre of punk and useful as fuck for getting hot suburban chicks and dudes who actually have jobs for beer money and cars and drivers licences into the scene

I have a problem with that very concept (equality doesn't exist), and I especially have problems with people who exploit the term's ambiguity for their own purposes.

Gentrification is literally the best thing ever. There is nothing wrong with putting space to better use instead of letting it fall apart so minorities can insulate themselves in their own shitty communities.

I'm half-Mexican. I'm from Boyle Heights (east LA). This community is a shit-hole, but everyone here hates whites. And now there's a ton of self-described "communist" youths who are fighting against THE SYSTEM (which, to them, means a Jamba Juice being built).
>>
>>64266431
I pretty much only go to hardcore shows. Flannels, hoodies, jeans, band shirts.

Also of course people dress up a little AT shows. It's real life I'm talking about. Nobody is wearing their battle jacket to their 9 to 5.

Of course all the punk Mexican kids hate whites. I hate the rich whites in LA and I'm white. But I'm from the IE so I'm pretty much Mexican.
>>
>>64266850
I never understood how protesting or even firebombing a Starbucks, Niketown or a Jamba Juice being built does fuck all against the system. Who cares? Just trash 'em cause it's fun

Anyhow, 'Its not what they're selling, it's what your buying' Just make your own space as best you can and support the things you agree with, and do your best to ignore 'the system'

Same with gentrification - its going to happen regardless, and having to uproot sucks, but theres always somewhere else to do your thing (and it might even be better!)
>>
>>64267702
>I really don't think you can
OP here.

I certainly can vouch for Skrewdriver and No Remorse, although personally, my far-right favorites are Kontingent 88, Fortress, Arghoslent, Vaginal Jesus and Mudoven.

Violent Storm, Celtic Warrior, Skullhead, Squadron, Sudden Impact and Warhammer are my favorites from Britain's RAC scene.

No Remorse has a nice, dirty sounding grit. It's also pleasantly scuzzy:

I was just assuming that posting those bands was meant to spark a political shitshow, not a musical discussion.

To many political (and religious) bands coast by on support from those who care about their extremist views more then the music so they usually tend to suck.

That said, I love me some aggressive as fuck right wing Oi! apologetically, and even the retarded shit can make laugh if the humor is right (see The People Haters)

>pic really related, you'd probably call me a red if we had a serious political discussion
As long as you could assume good faith and exchange ideas without getting into ad homs, I think we'd get along just fine.

Some of my friends are reds, but I don't let that interfere with my relationship with them as people. Of course, I usually fall out with the few who have something to prove and go lengths to alienate everyone around them, but all in all, I'd like to think I'm pretty fair-minded.

On another note, here's Kontingent 88:

Fun fact: although those guys played at RAC gigs, they themselves had nothing to do with the National Front. When Nicky Crane tried to bully the band into towing the line, they told him to fuck off; they refused to be anyone's fool. When they went to perform, some twat lobbed a beer bottle at them. From that point forward, they only played non-political gigs.

Sorry, I actually do get that you think this guy is taking advantage of "ambiguity", but my argument is that the term Feminism is completely straightforward-there is no ambiguity regarding what the actual word stands for. So if you're against people misappropriating the term Feminism, I suggest you say that's what you "hate", not Feminism itself.

>it should exist
That's just it. It's an impossibility, and the people championing its cause are either delusional or deceptive. What most people either ignore or don't realize is that "equality" is a zero-sum game. The "status quo", whoever that may be perceived to be, loses in some amount significantly at best and detrimentally at worst. Ought to arguments are wishful thinking at best and downright Trojan Horses at worst. The people who want feminism really want power and influence.

Frankly, I refuse to let some ivory tower pseudointellectual dictate the terms of my life.

Honestly you're misguided if you think I listen to what I like for "hipster cachet", but nice ad hominem anyways. I think there is a genuine message behind what I like. A message that speaks louder than ever, especially in the DIY punk scene in the northeast, thanks to the Internet and bands not even needing record labels to release their music. People will deny this message has any merit because the punk scene is not exactly like what it was when it was more popular in the 80s, but fuck that. When I think punk rock I think of bands like Fugazi, who weren't non-conformists just to be non-conformists, but rather they were non-conformists because the message they carried had genuine weight, something that many post-2000s bands who thrive in obscurity carry as well, and sometimes, much more so than the bands that came before them.

Fair enough.

I should have typed 'the majority of those who do', but I feel my point stands.

Glad you're staying true to punk, even if your versoin of punk isn't the 80s versoin (when Fugazi weren't even technically considered punk - I saw them a few times, and the crowd was much more 'indie kid' than 'punk', somethin g encouraged it seemed by Ian MacKaye by his hysterically butthurt stage banter and choice of opening bands (BeatHappening at one show) I still like them, hell I quoted 'Merchandise' in a previous comment)

Aggression isn't really my thing, but I do like energy and nihilism (at risk of sounding edgy, I like songs that are bitter in content but upbeat in style). Bounce really depends song to song, sometimes it's excellent and other times not so much. As for lyrics I can't pinpoint what I like the most. I come from listening to a lot of prog rock so I don't have a huge appetite for really pretentious shit, I've got my fill of that already, but I don't want songs with zero message either.
