What's the least-hated music artist?

i.e. when you say "I listen to <music artist>", practically no one would say "damn, your taste sucks"

Has to be a somewhat known music artist, doesn't count as least-hated if it's only because no one's heard of it

Pic may be related, I hardly know anyone who dislikes Arctic Monkeys
>>
>>64158458
I really dislike the Arctic Monkeys
>>

Of all the artists you pick shitty generic radio rock
>>

You're in for some fun OP
>>
>>64158458
But Arctic Monkeys are objectively bland indie trash
>>
>>64158458
Maybe in the real world, but most of /mu/ dislikes them, and especially their last effort
It's going to be hard to find one because a lot of people just hate everything from a genre, but I'd nominate Jason Aldean
>>
Arctic Monkeys haven't been remotely decent in 10 years. They're utter trash now.
>>
Oasis
>>
I don't think there are any. You can have very accomplished artists that are undeniably skilled and you'll still have people who will find a reason to hate them, or at the very least, just plain dislike them.
>>

For most of my life I didn't give a damn about jazz, and thought it was self-indulgent and boring. I tried to get into it, and listened to This Is Our Music by Ornette Coleman and A Love Supreme by John Coltrane, as well as some Sun Ra and Fela Kuti, and I thought they all had some nice moments, but still it wasn't as powerful as any of my favorites in rock or classical. Hearing Steve Albini and Tony Wilson bash jazz as self-indulgent bullshit was actually really gratifying.

Then I heard Django Reinhardt, and he was amazing. He blew me away more than anything else from his era.
Shortly after that I heard Miles Davis' Kind of Blue, and the first track just knocked me on my ass. It was the best album opener I'd ever heard. But hey, I figured the good stuff in jazz was still few and far between, and this was lauded as the greatest jazz album ever, so it was probably as good as it gets, right? I'd already heard and been underwhelmed by Bitches Brew a few years before, anyway.
Still, it prompted me to explore jazz, and then I randomly heard Let My Children hear music by Charles Mingus. This was the album that finally fucking blew my mind. It was more powerful than anything I'd ever heard in any genre, and I've been listening to music obsessively with almost autistic zeal since I was a child. It's still the greatest album I've possibly ever heard.
And then I heard The Shape of Jazz to Come, and it, too, is as powerful as any rock album or classical piece I've ever heard.

And that's basically where I am now. Nowadays jazz is pretty much all I ever feel like listening to. When I explore music, it's jazz. I'm looking for the next emotional high, looking for the next jazz album that's going to destroy me, just like I used to do with rock (mostly noise rock, post-hardcore, jangle pop, and goth) records.

Motorhead ever since Lemmy's death.

It's the most annoying thing. People used to give me shit for being a huge Motorhead fan, as part of a general anti-metal sentiment (and I'm not a big metal person, but Motorhead are fantastic).
Then when Lemmy died, it's like everyone became aware of how much respect Motorhead gets from musicians and artists, and all of a sudden all of these casual assholes have a faux-reverence for Motorhead, like it's a classic rock band. This shit is ridiculous

There actually is some segment of the population that derives no pleasure from listening to music, even if they do derive the typical psychological and physiological benefits from it.

sounds evoke emotions, and can take you to emotional highs. They can affect the way you think.
Music uses sound to affect you, just as novels use words to move you, or films use images. If making sounds is stupid, then making art must be stupid in general. There's actually an ancient Chinese philosopher named Mo Tzu who would agree with your assessment, but I for one strongly disagree.
>>
>>64162460
Her argument and my feelings toward it is defiitely not an intellectually and logically sound argument. However , my anti-social and cynic gut tells me otherwise. I suppose our argument is more connected with the definition of stupid rather than definition of art and music.
