>The Oblongs
>Fight Club
>GTA V
A little extra too though (Doc and Com)
>Earthlings
>Stella Shorts
I listen to TEN music artists though
>Arcade Fire
>Beck
>Kanye West
>Kendrick Lamar
>LCD Soundsystem
>Moby
>Neutral Milk Hotel
>Nine Inch Nails
>Radiohead
>Smashing Pumpkins
Not even baiting. I just know limits.

Yes, I've been thinking about this lately! Music is definetely number one, then literature and paintings and lastly movies.

Movies just never hit me as hard. A really good song literally feels like it changes my life, movies and series are just entertainment. I love going to the cinema though, that makes a movie so much better.

Music >> Literature > Paintings > Movies/TV/Games

There are a few games that's higher though, the Zelda-series for example. But generally speaking.
>>
Yeah, but i'm also a fan of literature and film. I don't know much about visual arts.
>>
It is my absolute favourite. Nothing else can affect me so emotionally in such a short amount of time as music can.

I've wanted to get more into film, but I don't have the resources or the knowledge to get into it or a decent player to watch them on. I also feel time ticking away much more consciously when I watch movies than when I listen to music.

I like reading, but I read very slow and I'm always scared that time is passing by too fast and thus I rarely finish anything I start.

>>64142547
Where do I begin with photography? I've recently discovered pictorialism and Ansel Adams, the man who loathed pictorialism, and I really enjoy both.

Getting into movies only costs a computer and an internet connection, I'm sure you have both.

It covers mostly paintings and drawings but Scarufmemes "book" (more like slide show) is pretty good and covers photography briefly

>>
>>64144119
It's pretty well put together and since it uses pictures it doesn't rely as much on scaruffis writing. I like his style but its kind of obvious that quite a bit of his ideas are lost in translation, so letting the pictures speak for themselves is nice. He also does a good job at picking out classics, and lesser known works.

If you do check it out, make sure to Google any of the works you find interesting. Scaruffi uses stupidly low resolution versions of them so a lot of the paintings are missing details or have weird colours. Just Google the painting name and museum websites usually have really good scans.

In terms of preference for my main hobbies:
Music > Literature > Film

its valid. Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask are legendary.

For me, music is probably the most immediately effective medium (competing with visual and performed media there), but it's possibly the least nuanced when it comes to communicating ideas/feelings. Visual media have more potential on that front, and written media even more than that, though they require more audience investment. Film/performance/interactive media (e.g. video games) can combine any of the previous to give even more artistic control over your audience's experience, but the more variables at play the more difficult it is to nail each and every one of those and have it work consistently with all the others.
>>
>>64144935
Well put but I would say music is pretty good at communicating feeling
>>
>>64144866
I agree but I don't think they're necessarily the best example of games as art, that's like saying a superhero movie is an outstanding example of the medium of film

>>
Depends on the work and the context.

Example: Mark Mothersbaugh's work
>>
>>64145086
Absolutely, but in quite an abstract way. To give it depth and nuance it seems you have to surround it with other media (e.g. lyrics, visual stimuli like album artwork or a stage set-up). Otherwise it almost seems like a short-cut to instilling vague feelings in your audience.

Though I guess for giving "indescribable" feelings that are difficult to articulate in other more specific media, that can be quite effective, but it seems an easy way out of even trying to articulate that stuff.
>>
Music >>>>> Literature > Movies/cartoons/games >>>>>>> TV

But sometimes games can go higher, Silent Hill and Dark souls series as an example.
>>
>>64145369
I agree to a point but some stuff that is very lyrically forward can do it better than even books in my opinion. Books can give you words, music can give you words, tone, inflection and other sounds to convey an idea or message

I know hip hop gets memed on but consider Kendrick's Good Kid MAAD City. He effectively tells a story of falling for a girl, fucking her, getting jumped on his way to fuck her, getting drunk with his friends to forget about being jumped, conspiring to and eventually shooting the guys who jumped him, dealing with the death of his friend who dies in the shooting and ultimately accepting Jesus as his saviour and realizing how fucked up but still beautiful life in Compton is. And the entire time he's telling this story his emotions and feelings are being conveyed to you not just in his words, but in the skits, the sound effects. The beats, etc

If hip hop isn't your thing I'm sure there's plenty of other concept albums that articulate feelings well. I wouldn't say it's as good as GKMC at this but Pet Sounds is pretty good at conveying feelings of longing and love

Also good on you for encouraging actual discussion on mu

No. I was raised on comics and have extensively studied the medium/industry and at this point have far more of an emotional attachment to these sequential images. I only got into music, along with poetry (but not other forms of literature) during my freshman year of high school. This isn't me being objective, I just have spent far more of my time on this Earth with comics. I still recognize the version of me that never ventured past the radio and my dad's record collection, I legitimately have no idea who or what i'd be without comics.

I do this because I want to, even if only to a small degree, practice anti-consumerism and minimalism.
You see, I live in the USA.
A capitalist imperialist country that feeds off green linen. Therefore even though I know there is no such thing as a nonconformist, I will not let myself fall into compliance too much. Plus, realize people, that you must claim your humanity. Too much media consumes you. What you own ends up owning you. Taking up all of your time. Nah, not me.
I'll be spending most of my time with my beautiful wife, doing triathalons, community service, volunteer work, LIVING LIFE. As it was intended to be fundamentally.

Of course. Music is the purest and most universal of all arts. Few people read, much less even go to museums or care about art exhibitions. Photography? Absolutely useless and obsolete art form since the advent of cinema. However, everyone listens to music, why do you think this is? Music provides the most direct aesthetic experience, even before you are born, you understand the appeal of music.

imo:

Music>>Film/TV>Literature>other
>>
Actually no. I really like music, but seeing a painting just inspired me with awe more than anything. Even if it's mediocre art work, I still think about how they did it, how much effort they put in, etc.

Video games have so much wasted potential. I think games still have more artistic value than television though.

What are some good games that came out this year? I used to love games but I just lost interest a few years ago. I still watch e3 because it's the funniest shit, but there's rarely anything that looks great. I've only played Super Hot and it was great besides the embarrassing story.

few years ago

iktf, except I still play games, just nowhere near as much as I used to. I rarely play more than an hour a day anymore and I often don't play any at all. I'd say I play about five hours a week max. There are some exceptions though, like when Halo 5 came out I played almost 50 hours in one week. then I realized the game was shit and I don't think I'm ever gonna play it again. if I'm gonna play Halo I might as well just play the ones that are good (CE, 2, 3, ODST and Reach).

anyways I'm rambling, if you want some good video games that are more recent, check out The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Undertale. Witcher 3 has an amazing story and a ton of content, I've put 50 hours into it and only just finished the main story, and there are like hundreds of side quests, literally. and it's got a huge, beautiful, detailed, immersive world. Undertale on the other hand is a pretty simply animated retro-style game, but it has an AMAZING soundtrack that you HAVE to experience as you play. and both games are loaded with feels and choices you can make that dramatically affect the outcome of the story or the fate of certain characters. don't fall for the "Undertale is a meme/furry/tumblr game", it's actually really amazing and I recommend not spoiling it for yourself.
