What do you think makes a great vocalist/front-man?
Pic related is in my opinion a great vocalist/front-man, but if you don't agree, that's fine, please share your opinions.
Starpower. Charisma. Originality.
IMO being a good music is not a prerequisite for being a great frontman. I hate Aerosmith but I recognize that Steven Tyler is (well, was) a badass frontman. I like MGMT but their live performances are absolutely meh because Andrew is not a fun frontman
I find Mizutani to be a rather strange frontman, because I think he's a very good one, but he breaks most of the "good frontman" laws - he has no charisma, he's not very energetic, his vocals aren't the focus of his songs, and he has no real presence off stage. Yet his mysterious nature manages to make up for it.

About as many people who have seen The Doors in concert. The Japanese underground is pretty impenetrable for those who aren't Japanese, and I doubt we have anyone here who was active in the Japanese underground in the late 20th century.

Actually being talented. I like the whole over the top rockstar glam stuff but if you don't have good music to back that up then you just look retarded on stage.

Saying talent, charisma, etc is totally missing the main ingredient. It's all about having a personality that builds up off the music both on and off stage. The frontman IS the music, the personification of the music, the most human element of it all, and that's what makes them so interesting. If you're in love with the music so much, you'll definitely be in love with the man/woman who the music embodies.
