Could you expand on which sounds are "interesting" to you? Honestly to me it sounds like a cut and dry synth-pop track with a few electro elements. The melody is very Egyptian Lover.
You mentioned it sounding similar to something Ae might make and it does remind me a bit of a track like Lowride, but the thing is that track was made around '91-'93 and maybe the most "derivative" material in their whole discography - it being pretty much a homage to the electro and Miami 808 bass scenes. That Grimes instrumental simply does not impress me seeing as it was made in 2012 , but I do find it catchy and pleasant enough.
