Nick certainly gave a fuck. One of the reason's his depression started worsening was because he thought he was a failure at being a musician because his sales were so low. Nick was a bit of a narcissist, and believed he must be great because that's what critics and the people he worked with him said. He just didn't understand why he wasn't succeeding.
