Have you heard the whole story behind it?
According to guitarist Brent Hinds most of the album is inspired by an astral projection episode he had while in a coma.
Apparently he cracked his skull after the 2007 MTV Music video awards in Las Vegas.
Story goes he was shitfaced and swinging his shirt in the air when he was knocked out by either Shavo Odadjian from System of a Down or the Reverend Horton Heat.
In the coma he had a pretty surreal out of body experience where he was exploring the universe. Brent says he was chilling around Saturn when he felt a tug on his dick from the nurse removing his catheter, then he woke up and threw up on everyone in the room.

Well, I've come across a lot of people in life who were blown away by things I'd consider pretentious. Example: From Mars to Sirius, a Gojira album, my friend was fucking nuts about. For the record he was a coke addict and an addict in general. Like, he has to stay far far far away from modern videogames that are heavy on the reward drip, like WoW. And of course you meet progfags on this board and elsewhere on the internet.
I never got prog. I like Opeth, and I guess since their songs are around 10 minutes each and have a variety of parts, they must be instrumental. And Justice for All is sometimes considered a prog thrash album, again perhaps due to the average length of the songs and the variety of tones or moods or whatever.
I'm still open-minded about what one might consider prog, but it just seems like people who are into prog are into the CONCEPT of prog. You give them a high-minded concept and they jizz their pants because they get to be part of the intellectual elite.
