theme: make me a VA comp

no restrictions or guidelines, but imo it should be varied but still work as whole

oh yeah and you gotta give it a name, a cover and upload it yourself

I assumed that then, but I wasn't sure. So yeah, I haven't heard enough of him actively to know about it.
Also by 'Jarret's sounds' above I don't mean his playing but rather the groaning, moaning, whimpering, sobbing, whimpering et al he does while playing.
Anyway on Changeless there's very nice playing and interplay from all the members. It's a very improvisation centered record and those three players know eachother really well all can do a lot together.

alright

Album I bought in Japan #1:
Number Girl - School Girl Distortional Addict

This was some pretty hardcore stuff. I liked the energetic, hard hitting nature of the album and the alt rock melodies that went along with it. I can't say it's incredibly memorable though. I still thought it was a very good album. 4/5.

heres two lazy reviews because i was busy with family and record store day

>Gorguts - Obscura
good metal is so hard to come by, especially from death metal. easily the best tech death album out there. i also saw that it's been tagged as "avant-garde metal", that sounds like an interesting meme, what are some other good albums from that genre?

>Daniel Johnston - Respect
its daniel johnston playing lo-fi piano and guitar, you know how it goes. this one is sadly kind of uninteresting at points, but it has its moments.

>>64110781
>If only I had a few hours alone at all this week then I could actually get it done but that's life I guess.
i know how it feels, i haven't had time to do anything new, and the few times i do have time to do so i haven't been able to come up with anything good. the only thing ive been able to do is a half-finished demo of a song that sounds like a 2000s era Coil song plus reverb guitar

Billy Cobham - Spectrum (1973)
>jazz fusion, jazz-rock

The drumming is obviously the best thing ever, but honestly I think it muddles up a lot of the songs. Most songs have kindasorta pointless drum solo intros, they're cool and all but they get really really tiring. And the album is a bit too smooth and calculated for my tastes. Still really nice at points though, obviously great instrumentation and the tunes are solid.

2.5+

John Hartford - Aereo-Plain (1971)
>progressive bluegrass

Disappointment, honestly. Hartford has so many phenomenal ideas, and all the playing is incredible, but none of these ideas have a chance to get fleshed out. The longest track here is 4 and a half minutes and there are 16 tracks, most of them feel like short little vignettes rather then full-fledged tracks, and its a total tease. Still quite nice, but if these ideas were expanded upon it'd be a classic.
>>
>>64112189

I didn't make it, actually. But it had me thinking as to how anyone comes up with original names anymore, as you can look up everything decent and find it has been taken. Most of the local scene where I am ends up stealing their name from lyrics/song names of something that influenced them. You can look up pretty much any song and there's probably some rather bad bedroom producer using it as their pseudonym. Every occult term probably has a really bad dark ambient/power electronics/etc. group behind it. So, I was curious as to how people come up with completely unique things when the waters are almost entirely occupied. Bandcamp and the internet era has made this especially troubling, as if you form a group and find that some dude in Uruguay is using that name for his harsh noise project and has already taken out the bandcamp page, you're pretty much forced to drop it.

>>64122196
Can I have a non-live album to replace one of them with? I'll do Joe's Garage too
>>
>>64122259
Sure! If you want something more Hot Rats-y, try out Sleep Dirt as well.

If you want something more comedy-oriented, do Sheik Yerbouti.

If you want some insane progressive pieces, do Studio Tan.

If you want to try his Progressive Electronic period, do Jazz From Hell.

If you want a good archive album, try the Lost Episodes.

Or you just fill both slots with Joe's Garage Act I and Joe's Garage Acts II & III since they're technically two different albums.

Good luck to ya!

Miles Davis - Complete In a Silent Way Recordings
whew laad, that was long, and great, but really long
So first I listened to the actual album, then I went back and listened to all the recordings. I think the album might be worse off with all this extra stuff.
Don't get me wrong, buying this thing would be excellent value, It really is just 3 hours of Jazz, quite often the same jazz, still, In a Silent Way is pretty good, I like it, probably more than Bitches Brew.

God morgon memers.

I'm hungover as all fuck, probably won't get out of bed until late tonight.

I went to a party, I only brought seven beers. Somehow I got absolutely shitfaced anyway, I think people gave me stuff to drink. Went to a pub afterwards and met two of my teachers, so I had a beer with them. That was fun, I think. I don't remember most of it. I told a girl in my class that I think of her as a little sister and then made a call to her (sort of) boyfriend to tell him he should speak to her over the phone while she was walking home. It took me about an hour and a half to get home, because I got lost in my drunken state, it was less than a kilometers walk. Once I got home I tried cooking some bacon and pasta to eat, managed to make a huge mess in the kitchen, burnt the bacon, and dropped a knife on my leg so I have a huge gash there now.

Great night, would do again.
