It's 2016 and tonal, common time, non-polyrhythmic compositions still reign over popular music. Is it safe to say it'll stay that way for centuries to come?

It depends how you measure "reign over". Music is consumed in many different ways and channels.

Biggest nuisance to me is the pop length 3-5 minutes. It encourages modular style music where you have building blocks [chorus][verse][bridge][chorus] its so sectional. Clearly form always exists but the lack of linear development frustrates me. It's encouraged by shorter song length and vocal fronted music.
