Were does one start to learn basic music theory? Any websites or books. I just want to be able to talk about an album or write about it and actually know wtf i'm talking about. I want to really start to understand music and not just make shit up like anny fantanny.

You can know a shit ton of music theory, and know jack shit. It doesn't help me, as the audience to a review, if someone starts telling me that the artist played a song in Locrian mode. Synesthetic terms are perfectly valid.
Do you play an instrument? It's better to actually apply concepts you learned. It's about internalizing via a principal instrument for me. Many people use piano as it's the most agreed simple way to illustrate. That is if you're referring to western music theory.
