Thoughts on this guy?
Listened for the first time yesterday, I started with the "Virgins" album and it's really good, which one should I listen next?

Harmony > Ravedeath > Imaginary Country > Virgins > Love Streams
tim hecker is absolute garbage. he has no skill at melody or harmony, no skill at layering texture, no skill at conceptual ideas. he's a fucking hack.
no wonder you fucking teenagers like him.

Interesting opinion, what are some of your favorite ambient artists?
>>64049304
Ambient is a bankrupt musical style that was started as a complete ripoff of Erik Satie.
My favorite artists concerned with texture are Feldman and Ligeti, but I like other musicians far more.
>>64049228
Why are you describing your self anon? You're shameful.

>ambient is a bankrupt musical style
>complete ripoff of one and only one composer
This seems incredibly close minded
Virgins is one of his worst.
Start from the beginning and work on chronologically.
I think Haunt Me is a bit underrated.
>>64049566
nice meme
>>64049549
And I'm sure you know much more than me about music history, kid.
>>64049566
Virgins is better than Ravedeath you dip
desu I don't care about music history I don't care of hecker is a talentless hack, I love his music
He's a Fennesz without talent and artistic vision.
>>64049617
I would be surprised if I new more than you but tracing an entire genre to one specific source is stupid.
>>64049617
Yeah, I probably do. You're also fuckin' dumb.
>>64048776
I can appreciate his easily digestible brand of neo-classical. It's sometimes cinematic to a fault, but I guess there's nothing inherently wrong with that.
I really hate how people try and compare him to "loftier" avant-garde composers (most of which is just an attempt to flaunt knowledge) -- I think he sits nicely between ethereal mood-music, and a more elevated form of expression,

ugh. avoiding you two tasteless troglodytes from now on.
>>64049906
>tasteless
I have a taste, and I can assure you that it's superior to yours :^)

"your gonna regret that, kid"
*unzips katana*

This
>>64049926
I haven't studied shit, but I've studied enough forms of art to know that boiling down an entire genre/movement is asinine. If you truly believe that it was one sole person then you haven't learned shit.
>not liking a certain artist just because of music history
autism?
>>64049319
>ambient started as a ripoff of Erik Satie
Lol... if you say so
And what the hell do Feldman and Ligeti have to do with a contemporary electronic artist (especially one so accessible)? You wouldn't simply be name-dropping, would you?
Feldman and Ligeti were academics who basically belonged to "movements", and exercised a fairly rigid ideology. This, of course, was before the clusterfuck of music that comes with the internet, and to use them as benchmarks to measure the quality of a pitchfork artist is utterly ridiculous.
>>64050097
he said he didn't like him because the artist had a poor grasp on melody, harmony, texture manipulation and conceptual ideas though
>>64050185
o-ok
Love Streams is better than Virgins but not as good as Harmony or Ravedeath
Finally the scholar douche is gone.
>>64049738
I like both but I do actually think I like Fennesz more
i saw him buying a sandwich the other day
wanted to say hi, but didnt
>>64048776
i like his tim and eric stuff
>>64051808
Ah man, should've given a head nod at least
